Nice buildI have the high end 21.5-Inch iMac (with no build to order add on's). At the time of me getting my iMac, John Lewis has an offer on where anyone buying a new iMac or MacBook got a 3 year warranty. So I was not able to do a build to order from Apple. I am glad I never as well, I feel my iMac is scarily powerful as it is and anything more would be super overkill.

How much video memory comes with that graphics card? And is it GDDR3 or GDDR5?
If you could add these to the poll, thanks

I was kind of hopping for a shorter list, as its somewhat cumbersome adding that many, and it may make the poll that much more awkwardly large.
Looks like more 2012-2013 27" BTO than all others combined -- results are quite suspect! The poll, like the MacRumors site, is skewed toward high-end users that upgrade frequently. I feel out of place with the last three iMacs I've bought (all still in use) being 4 to 5.5 years old (1 BTO, 1 high end, 1 entry).
While it may not be the king dick in this pissing contest, my base 2011 iMac has been superb for me. No problems and has done everything I have ever asked it too.

I use it for school (writing papers, excel, et.c.), photo storage and editing, a bit of google sketchup, and the usual stuff - email, browsing, music, movies, et.c.
It's a solid computer which works well. While working with SketchUp I could do with a bit more ram than the standard 4GB but I can't be bothered upgrading. I usually buy the standard configs and replace the entire computer a few years down the road. I plan on keeping this iMac for a while longer, most likely until I move out to my own place.![]()
Interesting insight into the mentality of Mac owners.
The late 2012 iMac was out for a year before being replaced by the late 2013 iMac. Whereas the late 2013 iMac has only been out for a few months.
Therefore, you would logically expect (and I am 100% certain this is true) that there are more late 2012 iMacs out there than late 2013's. The sales of 2013 iMacs in a few months cannot possibly have outstripped an entire years sales of 2012 iMacs.
So, then, isn't it odd to see 19 people voting for 2013 i7 BTO's and only 9 people voting for 2012 i7 BTO's.
I can only conclude that there is a honeymoon period of new ownership where people are interested in their new toy and visit forums like this. Whereas once you have had the machine for a while and the novelty has worn off, you don't come around so often.
