Got a question for frequent Apple upgraders. For my Macs I typically get a new one when I feel that my old mac is due for an upgrade and seems like it's slowing my workflow. For my ios devices I'm always upgrading whenever there is a new device. However for iPad I've upgraded every generation except for the 4th generation iPad, because to me it really felt like a useless upgrade.
If you're a serial upgrader, which iPad have you skipped?

I went 1, 3, and now Air. I didn't plan it that way, just the way finances have worked out. I also bought my wife a Mini last year, she doesn't care about upgrading to the rMini.

I am also on the "Non-S" iPhone upgrade cycle. I've had the 3g, 4, and 5.

I owned the iPad 1, 3, and now the Air. I had a feeling that the Air would be coming when they released the Mini...the 4 was not much of an upgrade and I never really felt that it was needed. The speed would've been nice, but I didn't need it. I upgrade my phone each year, but I upgrade the iPad for a reason. 1-3 was all about the Retina Display...3 - Air is all about form factor (and the huge speed boost).

Can we please change "2nd generation iPad mini" to "gamut-gimped iPad mini" so people know what you're referring to?

Skipped the iPad minis and iPad 3rd generation since the processor was struggling to render retina display.

I like to skip a generation. I had a 3G first-gen iPad on launch day and skipped the iPad 2. I upgraded to a third-gen when it came out and skipped the 4. But as much as I want an Air or Retina Mini, I can't justify it when iOS 7.0.4 still performs pretty well on what I have. Maybe I'll pick one up when the refurbs hit the store after the holidays. We'll see.

I upgrade when the new features/capabilities seem worth the cost delta. Sometimes that's each generation, sometimes it's skip-a-generation.

With the ipad it made sense to me to upgrade from 1->2 and 2->3. Didn't see any reason to go to the 4, and didn't have any reason to buy a mini when they came out.

Had iPads 1-3 won't be buying another one unless ios advances by leaps and bounds. Android and Windows 8/RT are light years ahead at this point.

3 -> Air and Retina Mini

Never needed the ipad when 1 came out

Didn't really need an ipad 2 either.

Got an ipad 3 because I wanted one, great media consumption device. Tad heavy

Skipped 4, too soon and small upgrade.. If I knew it was coming out I would have waited and gotten the 4 instead of the 3

Mini 1 was skipped for the lack of a retina display

Ipad Air because of the new lighter form factor and 128gb storage

Retina mini for situations where the air is too big

Every model until now I've skipped. Too heavy or no retina but those have been addressed now.

I skipped the 4th gen only because I had just gotten the 3rd earlier that year. Didn't make sense to buy another one so soon.

iPad 1> skipped 2,3,4> now I have the iPad air.

Same here. I am not really in a financial position to be buying iPads every year and 1st gen iPad served me well for my modest needs. However with the inability to upgrade the OS and it's slowness were both factors in finally upgrading at this point.

I went from the iPad -> iPad 2 -> iPad 3rd gen -> iPad mini -> iPad Air. So the only ones I've skipped are the iPad 4th gen and the iPad mini with retina display, but I've picked up a new iPad each time they've had a refresh so far. I went with the Air this time around because for me it was now close enough size/weight to the mini, unlike the last gen where the mini was over 50% lighter.

Skipped the first gen iPad, mainly because I didn't particularly see use for it, or couldn't predict how it'd fan out. I'm sure finances were a factor as well. Ended up going for the second gen on launch day.

Skipped the fourth gen iPad, mainly because it came out half a year after I picked up my third gen iPad.

Skipped the first gen iPad Mini, mainly because I still had my third gen iPad. Oh, and it didn't have a retina display.

Second gen iPad Mini arriving today (thus skipping the Air)! :D

Skipped 1 b/c I didn't need one.

Bought 2 b/c I DID need one right around the time the 2 came out so it worked out.

Bought the 3 when the 4 came out b/c I wanted Retina but didn't want to pay for a 4. Kept 2 as a JB device.

Skipped the 4.

Skipped 1st Mini.

Getting Mini retina.

Will keep 2, sell 3 or give it to a family member to have.
