Original > iPhone 4

Have had the original one since it first came out in the UK. It's a bit battered now after being dropped over the years. Dents everywhere but the screen is still in tact and it still works well (apart from a line of dead pixels on the screen near the top that appeared in the last few months). The build quality on the original iPhone was amazing - never had it in a case or anything and there's still only a few light scratches on the glass.

Wasn't interested in the 3G or 3Gs as my original did everything I needed but I will be getting the iPhone 4 though as it's only a matter of time before my original gives up the ghost.

iPhone 2G 8GB
iPhone 3G 8GB

and now im gonna get the iPhone 4. It'll be the first time I've had the newest iPhone when it came out. I usually just get the previous years model.

had the 3G, bought the 3GS on PAYG, contract expires in august so will be getting the 4 either then or if o2 lets me upgrade slightly early ill get it when its jailbroken

Original iPhone - Didn't buy
iPhone 3G - Purchased
iPhone 3GS - Skipped, didn't feel it was much of an upgrade
iPhone 4 - Major upgrade, definitely buying

Same here. Just contemplating whether to sign up to a new contract or buy a PAYG handset and stay on my current monthly rolling deal.

I live in podunk nowhere so AT&T doesn't sell service here, so acquiring iPhones has been a bit more difficult, especially economically.

After the 3G had been out for some time, I finally picked up the original iPhone (Jan of '09). This year I had the chance go pick up a 3G decently priced (Jan of 10), so depending on how things go with AT&T deploying in my area, or the mythic Verizon iPhone, I'll probably pick up the iPhone 4 sometime in Jan of 11.

I stood in line for three hours on launch day to buy my aunt an iPhone, but I never personally owned one.
I bought a 3G in November of 2008.
I passed up the 3GS, because there wasn't enough of a reason for me to upgrade. I am still more than pleased with my 3G, although I will admit the speed of the 3GS is very nice. I just felt buying one would make me a sucker.

I don't think iPhone 4 is enough of an update justify upgrading from my 3G from a feature standpoint. Not that I'm disappointed with the update, it's just that it's only a phone and I don't have any real need for the new features (although they will be nice).

BUUUUUUUT

I am upgrading from my 3G, because the case is falling apart, the screen's scratched to death and I've been having some strange OS quirks that won't go away even after a restore to a new profile (I assume the problems are tied to some minor hardware issues).

iPhone 4, here I come!

Cover is a very different thing from "sell service to". That's the big trouble out here. Sure there is coverage, but it's spotty, and AT&T won't sell service to South Dakotans, so a microcell is a no go.

I'm sure that they "cover" 97% of Americans, but probably sell service to a few percentage points less.

iPhone 2G - did not get
iPhone 3G - bought off craigslist and used on tmobile
iPhone 3GS- got out of tmobile and onto AT&T
iPhone 4 - will be my first launch day iPhone!

I've owned every iPhone and thanks to AT&T's early upgrade gift, my wife and I will both be getting iPhone 4s. Apple & AT&T have been very good to us loyal family plan customers. I also plan on upgrading free because we'll be selling our 3G & 3GS.

I got a 3G on launch week, had planned to skip the 3GS until it got stolen on July 4 (happy Independence Day to me, boo). It was a blessing in disguise though since I use Backgrounder all the time and the 3GS functions way better jailbroken in comparison.

Practically I don't need the 4 at all and the smart thing would be to ride out my AT&T contract into Verizon's arms next year (or hopefully this fall, fingers crossed).

But I do want it. :p I'll reserve a decision till I see the phone for myself.
