Which one will last the longest is up to 1. How it is used and 2. chance (from a failure standpoint).

I don't understand why you or most people would want the rMB. The rMB is a solid machine in every way, but it is nothing more than that. The rMB and rMBP have similar prices, screens, batteries, track pads, and OS X.. But it kind of ends there. The Pro is ahead in terms of power, peripherals, and has a nicer keyboard imo. But the rMB would surely make a nice machine for someone who needed a small laptop to carry with them and use frequently throughout the day. I just don't see it being ideal for much more than that.

I own one of the new XPS 13s, and I don't like it. The retina MacBook is a nicer machine. I bought a rMBP because I didn't like the XPS. But ~$1300 is a lot of money for a computer that is just solid(the rMB). To me, if you have basic needs, consider an Air or a Windows 10 machine.

With this said, there are many of people who LOVE the rMB, and that speaks louder than it's specifications and speculations.

Still, unless you specifically want the rMB, I think the rMBP is a safer bet. And wait for a couple weeks before you do anything.
