Hi,

Really?! So you're saying that there may not be any point for me to upgrade. That may be good to know also.

Where would I see the benefits of these more up-to-date machines?

I like my 2.33 and its fast enough for my use, the 2.33 does max out at 3GB of ram so i would get the 2.2 or 2.4 if your looking to gain another 1GB of ram

I think coming from my even older core duo, 3gb or 4gb is not such a big deal for me. It comes already with 4gb, so it's not that I'm going out of my way to upgrade memory.

I'm just hoping that either one will provide a nicer, faster experience than what I am already accustomed to.

The machines you are looking at were released within the 1.5 year timeframe after your Core Duo - which is IMO not enough for performance to significantly rise. If you were encoding DVDs and rendering frames on hours on end, you would see some boost (10-30%), but you aren't doing it so I don't know why you bother upgrading this early and to such an old machine...

Hi,

It really shows how little I know about these things...

I thought that there would be quite an improvement with going at least core2duo, but maybe I'm mistaken.

I also figured that at these prices, I could probably sell my old one at close to the same price as these "newer" machines.

Not sure if any of you may care, but here is an update:

I ended up getting both, the 2.33 for $800 and the 2.2 for $850. I was able to use cashback on the 2.2 since the seller put it on ebay for me. I liked both models, as well as my old mbp too. The LED screen was definitely brighter, but at times I thought too bright.

It was certainly a difficult decision, but I decided to sell the 2.2 and the my previous one. Made a nice profit on the 2.2, and sold my old one for $850 (but I kept the 320gb HD), so I definitely came out ahead.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped in this thread!
