Not necessarily. If they were smart, they stocked up on the units they expected to sell more of.

If they were smart they would still have supply of the higher spec'd model available rather then lose out on a customer. I was told they get shipments in frequently during the week so I assumed they just simply sold out of the 2.53ghz since their last shipment.

I was at the Apple Store yesterday ready to buy my new 2.53ghz machine. He had the iPod, printer, and MBP out and everything until I realized he brought out a 2.26 machine. I mentioned to him I wanted the faster machine so he went to the back to check to see if they had any left. There were none and I walked out empty handed.

It seems most people here are buying the 2.26 model, but the Apple Store I visited would suggest otherwise.

Huh? This argument would make sense only if the store ordered the same number of 2.26 and 2.53 GHz machines. I highly doubt that is the case. They order more of the lower-spec machine because they expect to sell more of them. It's impossible to infer anything about the sales of the two machines based on current stock without knowing the relative order quantities of both machines.

What if they order 20 2.26 GHz machines for every 1 2.53 GHz machine? Does that mean the 2.53 is selling better? Of course not.

I just sold today my MB AIR 1.6 (RevA) and bought the MBP 2.53 version. Was the last unit on almost 5 stores at VA on 30 miles radius of my zip code.

The Apple online store was until yesterday, “24 hours delivery” now is 5-7 business day delivery.

Also with Apple “no support issue” on the 1.7 firmware for non-Apple approved SSD, I do not know how valid is save a "couple" of $ and deal with the firmware issue.

Regards.

Again, I just find it hard to believe that the Apple Store would keep low stock of a high end model that has better returns than the low end. This is especially hard to believe because the Apple Store frequently gets restocked.

Whatever the reason, Apple needs to keep a good stock of their 2.53 model so people like myself and CPPMaster wouldn't have to drive around/call around just to find a computer or walk out empty handed. When I do go buy my 2.53 I'll ask the store clerk who is helping me which model they sell more frequently. It will just be interesting to know.

Gee, you guys need to use your head here.

Have you ever heard of "just-in-time" inventory?

If the Apple store could carry 1000 2.53 13" MBP's, they would, but they simply don't have the space. Couple that with the fact that the 2.53's are selling quick, and the Apple store experiences a temporary shortage.

Just ask when there next shipment comes in and buy then.

I am thinking of buying my first Mac for college and I am planning to go with the Macbook Pro 13" base model. I am planning to upgrade the HDD and selling the 160 Gb one that comes with the notebook.

What is the best way to erase the HDD before selling it? Is there any way to do it without an external enclosure?

TIA

I still don't see any hard facts from the 2.53 supporters. Just the 'get what you can afford/best' notion.

If that were the case, would you get the 2.53 if it was $700 more? "Why yes of course! I could never stand myself knowing that something that is marginally better is out there!"

Common business sense tells me that Apple already took into consideration of these 'get the best' crowds and priced profits accordingly.
