I have a 13" 2.26 C2D MBP and a 15" i5. Before I bought the 13", just to have another computer around the house, I always bought 15" models. I love the 15" speed, but after using the 13", it feels like I'm carrying a brick house around. I'll likely never buy another 15". I can't imagine the 17". Might as well just buy a 21" iMac. Seriously, go for the 13". Great machine -- perfect for the couch or in an airplane. Hopefully we'll be seeing an i3 flavor since it seems Apple has resolved the video card issue w/ Intel.

thats the issue the 17 size.

I'm curious why you want a laptop. You don't travel and you don't need a high powered machine. It seems to me that your iMac and iPad setup suits you well.

Curious too, why even get a laptop? Your criteria sounds like you've already got everything you would need or want. You don't travel much so you've got the iMac, you want long battery life so you've got the iPad.

If you are a professional user, the 17" is the only option.

People who wine about the size and weight need to do some manual handling sessions.

13" Basic model is the only one for you~ Especially if you're looking at the battery life. 15 and 17 won't give you much battery life because of the SUCK "Auto graphic card switch"

As you can see I own an 17" i5 model... Quite disappointed the battery life~ However, by saying that I can at least get 5 hours...

I hate when the apps don't need the high performance graphic card, and it automatically switch to the High performance one... and that's REALLY SUCKS

17" every time. After all, how often do I actually have to carry it on my person any great distance? Office -> car -> meeting -> train -> home -> sofa -> kitchen etc etc.

Its a powerful beast and does everything you could ever want for now and for well into the future. Plus, its fantastic for viewing movies too and the sound is very good. I get an easy 5 hours battery life without even thinking about power saving features.

Okay, if I had to walk several miles a day with it, I might think again, who knows. But I don't :)

I have the i7 8gb with HD display and 7200rpm disk

Hope that helps.

good point

i agree. however reading posts on here re the 17 daily seem to indicate that the 17 is too big and funny looking. one reason that i buy apple products is for design and style. it seems many think the 17 looks strange because it is too big, kind of like a big 19 pc desktop replacement

I have a 17". It's fine on the couch - or used to be, before I got an iPad.

one thing about being an apple users is your in an elite club who has seen the flaws of windows pc. when i think about a 17 desktop replacement i think of a old dell 17. it seems the trend is towards smaller screens on portables, do you agree?

Much better speakers on the 17. For me this would be a huge feature. Also, with an EyeTV, the 17 can be the household's new flat screen television!

Well, the definition of portable has changed radically with the introduction of the iPad. When my MBP finally gives up the ghost, I'll probably replace it with an iMac and rely on the iPad for portability.

what is a portable?

the idea of a portable has changed since ipad. i think a new air 11-13 could be a game changer. longer battery life and smaller seems more popular than faster and bigger.

I have a 17" and love it. It's not difficult to move it around. When traveling from place to place, I have it in the Incase Nylon Tech Brief, which is made for the 17". It's perfect. It's really nice to have massive screen real estate while working at a desk, which is the vast majority of time.

I'd get a MacBook Air, and I guess the closest to that would be the 13" MacBook Pro.

Personally I'd still be using a MacBook Air if I didn't need the power on-the-go.

Not everyone can afford to fly business class all the time. Trust me, the 17" does not fit on any tray table for those of us for fly coach.

a new air would be nice but it will only be better than the 13 pro if it gets the long battery life, more ram, and glass track pad.

17 i7 gets worse battery life

If you're choosing between the 13" and 17", I'd go with the 13. The 17 is just to big and it's like carrying around a lunch tray.

However, the 13" feels a bit small, so 15" is probably the best, IMO. :apple:

funny..this is it

this is the comment. mbp come in 3 sizes small, medium, and large. 17 a lunch tray? get a 15? its size they are all the same or are they? this is the troubling comment made about the 17 all the time, lunch tray? not sure who came up with it but i guess it means its ugly, too big, and does not look like a portable notebook but just a big tray. so is the 17 just too big to buy. i know some people will not care about how it looks they need the power in the field. how about for the rest of us, the 17 is not priced that much more than the 15 and has an hd res screen, is it worth it or is it a "lunch tray" when i see a mabook in public i stop and look they look so much better than pc. i dont see too many 17 out and about but what would people think look at that "lunch tray"
