Do not keep the LG with the crackling noise. I had a similar issue, and it only got louder and more frequent with time. It took a lot of effort to document and reproduce the issue.

Return the LG and pursue getting the Samsung fixed if necessary...

LG, the sound issue isn't a big and could he diagnose in the future if it reoccurs, seems like small problem. You prefer the LG screen anyway.

do you have a retina macbook to?

If I were you would keep the Samsung, the yellowish you are referring doesn't show up in your picture. Calibrate the screen with the profiles shared in the forum; on the worst case scenario, if after calibration it bothers you or over time gets worse, the Genius will replace the screen of the Samsung machine and you will likely get a replacement Samsung display, since apparently all the replacing displays they install are Samsungs.

I can't really see the yellow - sorry!

Apple ended up replacing my mac. I think the noise is associated with the graphics card, as the noise intensified when doing graphics intensive processes. I'd replace it while you still can!

thanks for the reply! i assume u wouldnt risk it with the lg even though the crackling has so far subsided?

really? the graphics card can make noises?

put a scratch on the hinge of the LG and that will make your decision easier. it will eventually happen. I used to be the same way as you until I dropped my phone out of my pocket. I thought I was going to die but now I don't think about it...and there have been a few more scratches since anyway.

did u see the yellow tint on the screen i posted a pic of?

If you keep the Samsung, you have to recalibrate it using the advanced settings ... it makes all the difference in the world!

i assume u recomend keeping the samsung?

Absolutely ... I turned my MBPr in because my LG screen had horrible ghosting. I got it back and they had put a Sammy in that looked horribly yellow. After playing with it for a couple of days I realized that there was an advanced menu in the calibration screen. I went in there and tweaked the settings and now the colors look the same as on my thunderbolt display.

no matter which one you choose either inappropriate yellowing *or* image retention (and if that speaker noise starts acting up again) will fall under apple care. choose the one you like the most...they won't fix the scratch though.

I'm going to chime in here again with three options:

My personal option: Keep LG, if the noise returns then I'll document it. If the issue carries on then take it into the Apple Shop.

2nd option: Return both, telling them that they both have defects. It might not work which is why my personal option is listed above. Noise issue could be hard to replicate, Samsung machine would be easily replaced. Return LG, and fix Samsung.

3rd: Keep Samsung, this is it everything else fails. I'll just have to suck it up and enjoy it. It's still a beautiful machine.

If you think there is yellow tint then you don't need to show us. If you think it's unacceptable then rule it out. We don't need to tell you that, since you pretty much know that yourself.

Furthermore, I'd be 100% content with the LG right now. If the sound issue replicates then I would make my way to get it fixed, I'm sure it's not a huge problem and if it gradually gets worse then it'll be easier to replicate and fix. There's nothing wrong with the machine right now.

If you really want to keep the Samsung, then do it. But I would personally keep LG, and it anything 2nd option. :)

I don't know whether I notice yellowing or not. If I see what I think you're referring to it doesn't seem to be localized to any one corner.

Yes, I own a retina 15" with a samsung panel. I have a stuck pixels in the middle of the screen and I have to figure out when I want to have it fixed. It's not bugging me enough and I have three years of Apple Care so I'm not in any rush to have it repaired.

Thanks for your input, the rrep gave me an extended date to keep both machines and see which one i like best

im tempted to call again and see if i can try to get em to send me one more replacement. (obviously i would send one of them back of course before hand)

i assume u have a retina with LG screen SJA2?

I have a rMBP purchased in June 2012. After hearing of all the complaints of IR I decided to check my display, and it was indeed a Samsung. One month into owning the computer a pixel died. I sent it away to be repaired after a visit to the Apple Store, and it came back with an LG screen. I have never had a single problem with IR with my LG screen. Never got why everybody hates them. I'd say keep the LG, you still have a year of warranty if that noise decides to return.
