Also, do you think Spotlight indexing my drives is causing an issue? Should I wait to try migration assistant until spotlight is done indexing?

I'm wondering if the Spotlight indexing was causing you not to be able to unmount drives back when you were trying to Verify/Repair then while logged into OS X.

So it stopped hanging, but then it wouldn't let me select my old boot drive. Under "Select User Accounts To Transfer" it was merely blank.

I think this is progress, but I still can't get my apps transferred over! Grr

Give us a screen shot of what the root level of your G5 backup looks like. Double click it, view as list, toggle the Users folder open.

Have you ever verified that the Clone of you G5 drive is valid? Maybe the clone itself is bad, causing these problems.

Weird. On my cloned drive, it showed up some folders, but there was nothing on my user account and look at these icons for my apps ????? One of my other partitions doesn't even show anything, when I click on it in my desktop, but the space there is still used.

All I want to do is transfer my user account to my new computer!!!!!!!

Maybe this link will shed some light on things here. Evidently Power-PC to Intel does not make nice in computer land. Still though, it doesn't explain why my external is acting so weird.

When it shows up correctly, I want you to drag your user account folder over to your new 'Book. Forget the other stuff, the most important thing is that folder.

Ok. Did you read that link I posted about power pc and intels?

Darn first time didn't take. I'll try again. Maybe I'll use a USB connection instead

I connected via USB and drag and dropped my user profile from my old G5. Now, I'm aware of the issue with Power=PC to Intels, but I at least want the info and the programs. What should I do after I copy all of my old user folder? Just drag and drop the items I want on my new MB?

Well I'll b e damned....just two minutes into the transfer, the items that were once in my user profile on my external just stop being listed (though the data amount is still there...just 0 items). Why did this all of a sudden happen?

Yes, I did. And it is not true, Migration Assistant with PPC to Intel chipped Macs works just fine. The problem here is your backup, it is close to being hosed.

Dang. Any suggestions as to just retrieving the files off of it (without sending it to an expensive HD recovery place)?

The G5 backup is the only one I have! The actual G5 and original HD are gone!!!
