If I end up getting a retina model, still torn on which configuration to get. I plan on starting some music production, and I'm going into CS at uni this fall. I really don't know how my uses will change as far as RAM/storage. Can anyone comment?

I'd LIKE for the base model to more than meet my needs, as the price of entry into the retina MBP world is already a bit steep for me.

I think the base model will do just fine. CS actually doesn't have different computing requirements than other majors. The base system will be fine for coding but more than likely, you'll be using other systems for any programming.

I ordered the base 2.3GHz with 16gb of ram. I figured that since the memory is hardwired onto the logic board, I better max it out. Not for now, but an eye towards the future.

2.7
16GB
512GB

Not sure if the 2.6 to 2.7 option will make any difference but I think the extra cache may be more important than the extra Hz.

$500 to jump to the next storage was a little too much in my opinion as I will keep my large media off the laptop on USB3 or TB drives.

16GB is a must as it can't ever be changed and upgrade cost is small.

I was in an airport during the keynote, boarded the plane when they started talking about IOS6. 2.5 hr flight to home. Got home and started to order. My new 11" Air arrives this Tuesday but the RMBP hasn't shipped yet and estimates June 27-Jul 3 delivery and had a 7-10 business day ship time (should be middle of this week). Can't wait but hope to get it before I travel again on the Jul 1st weekend.
