13". It's perfect while on the move, and I connect a 24" external display to it when working at home anyway. I worked on a 15" for a while now, but every now and then, I still think it's a tad to big to work with on the campus. 17" is totally out of the question.

15" MBP here. When I bought this pre-unibody MBP there were only two sizes in the MBP range so if you wanted a pro it was 15 or 17 inches. 17 is just too big to be readily portable and the 15 is a good compromise.

Were I buying today I would consider a 13" because they are cheaper and you can plug them into an external monitor when you are static anyway if you need screen real estate.

15", because it's not any less portable than the 13".

This.

I have a 13 at the moment, but it will be replaced soon with a 15 when I gift this blackbook to my mother and buy a new unibody. The 17 is simply too much for me.

I would have to say the 15 or the 17. I use to only use 17inch notebooks but stepped down to a 15inch and even traveled overseas more then once and was able to open the laptop all the way out. But now a days a 15inch is the right size.

I prefer the form factor of the 13" MacBook Pro, but the screen resolution is a bit limiting. A higher-resolution 13" display (1440x900) would be perfect for me.

13, only because I have a mac pro and dual 23's to work from, so I don't need the real estate when portable.

Have a 15" MBP now, waiting to see what the new MB Air looks like.

Upgraded from 13" MBA to 17" MBP... I honestly find the 17" to be perfect for me (For me, not for you, it's an opinion here). The 13" is portable but its small on resolution. The 15" is nearly as big as a 17... so why not get the 17 for more performance, resolution and everything else in between.

13" is perfect for me

I had every intention of buying a maxed out 17" until I actually spent some time with each model. Bottom line was for my usage (and already having a 24" external monitor) the 13" just made more sense. The $1K savings was nice too, but not the deciding factor. I would have liked to have discrete graphics, but I don't really need it. I consider myself a heavy business user, in that I run multiple programs including a VM all day everyday, and the 13" handles it like a champ.:D

Thought I've revive this thread since the recent update to the MBP's. Up until this point the 13" and 15" where even in the Poll, see below:

From Feb 22 2010 -

13" 138 42.59%
15" 139 42.90%
17" 47 14.51%

Total 324 voters.

Now since the refresh the 15" MBP seems much further ahead in another Poll here. I wonder why? The 13" MBP staying C2D is okay with me as it would be with most of the Mac buying public.

I had a 12" PowerBook G4 867MHz, now I have a 15" PowerBook 1.67GHz and will soon be on a 13" MBP 2.4GHz. I like the screen real-estate on the 15", but I bring my laptop with me everywhere, so it's a bit bulky. I loved my 12" until it died, so I think I will be very happy with the 13" screen.

17"

Because when I buy a computer, I think more about my experience USING it than my experience carrying it around... seems more significant. Besides... I've owned a 13", 15" and a 17" myself and carrying around the 17" isn't a big deal at all... you just need the right bag and arms bigger than toothpicks.

I need the portability of a 13" as a college student because not all of the classrooms have the desk space required for something bigger than that

15" For a few reasons, portable enough and I find it easy to carry. Thought about a 13" but perfer the bigger screen, i7 isn't an option on the 13, wanted a dedicated GPU and perfer the speakers.

17" is just a tad too big, where as the 15 seems just right, plus the same specs of what I have in the 17 would be past my budget.

13. I travel with mine a lot, so the smaller size is a big plus. Also, the lower price is attractive. (In contrast to Lenovo, where there'a premium to go from 14->13, for Apple the premium is to go from 13->15.)

I'll take the biggest I can get, but with laptops the 1440x900 resolution on a 13" would have been the most ideal for me; however I do want the power of the 15" and with the recently increased in resolution to 1680x1050, it has become a very good screen size for me.

Going to get the 13" because I'm heading off to school and can't be bothered to lug around something larger all day. If I need the power I'll build something more powerful at home, simple as that.

Chose the 15" because it appeared to me to be the best compromise between screen size & portability. I'm not going to lie and say it wouldn't be cooler to watch flicks in bed on a 17" screen, or play the occasional game on a larger screen, but I know I'd be regretting it the day after, when it's time to take the notebook out of the house with me.

On the other hand, I'd regret getting the smaller screen (13") on my many days at home doing stuff on the laptop without taking it anywhere.

Ergo, 15" is the perfect solution for my needs.

I upgraded from a 13' to a 15' last week, and i could not be happier.
You honestly don't loose portability with the 15'. Just as easy to move around as the 13' IMO.
you going to fill the same next time when you switch from 15" to 17"

I was there.

I have a 2006 rev a Macbook 13 inch and I love it for it's portability, but I need a little more power than the current lineup has at 13 inches. 15 is really not all that much bigger to me and the extra power that it has is just to tempting to avoid. I think I might keep my 13 inch macbook as long as I can as I love it but having a 15 MBP would be perfect when my macbook dies as I have a portable machine and a relatively decent desktop replacement for grad school and photography. If the 13 inch MBP had an i3 and better graphics I wouldn't mind that because at my desk I use an external monitor anyways.
