But also am dismayed at how many people actually believed that is what they paid for the phone.
Two reasons for that. The subsidy of course, but also ignorance.

With the exception of many members here who are into their phones, the average iPhone buyer has no idea what they are buying beyond the physical look of the device. That's changed somewhat in recent years as app sizes have increased and that's forced people to start paying attention to their storage.

But, I would argue that the average iPhone user didn't give a second thought to 16GB, 64GB or 128GB. They just wanted a cheap iPhone and the "$200" iPhone is the 16GB one. They don't even bother to wonder or inquire about the cost of the higher capacity iPhones.

Now that this is starting to bite people in the ass though they are starting to pay more attention - and realizing that if they want their $200 pipe dream iPhone they're going to be paying for it by spending a lot of time managing it.

And it was never $200 as the carrier always charged monthly to recover the full cost of the phone. What was especially agreagice was they kept charging that high fee event after the phone was paid for. At least they have come clean in the use of the finance programs which do have an end date.

Now the cable companies are starting to throttle data usage to curtail people from dropping their TV subscriptions and streaming over Internet.

Why did it fail? Did they tell you? Why do you call them "greedy bastards"?

I would assume that OP has a contractual obligation to AT&T and still needs to pay before they unlock the phone.

Calling them "greedy bastards" is a simple way to displace anger at putting oneself in a situation of financial obligation that you don't want to fulfill later on. For example, if I sign an apartment rental agreement with a 1-year lease... and 6 months later I end up wanting to move (aka break the lease), I can get mad at myself for signing a 1-year lease but whats the fun in that? I'd rather call the rental company "greedy bastards" for not letting me out of my financial obligation and bending the rules for me just because it is no longer what I want ;)

Logical, makes sense to me. I mean, why would anyone expect they should live up to a contract. Like Lewis Black says in whiny voice. "It's too hard, makes me cry and wanna hold my pp"

Here is something to ponder. If it's illegal to hire someone else to kill someone, conspiracy and all. Is it illegal to hire someone to commit fraud on your behalf?
I realize they are different situations by large factor. But just saying, no one really thought these unlockers were doing this on the up and up, right.

Maybe cuz it was on the Internet, and we all know you can't tell untruth on the net. ;) Well I gotta run, have a date with French model I met on the net.
