Agree. Always go with real-world results, not advertised specs. In my case, squeezing 200MB/s out of the USB is pretty darn good. Anything to help future proof the old Mac for couple more years.

Ok have had second thoughts about sticking with USB 2, my new TM backup is taking forever (and I stupidly decided to encrypt it, so it’s even slower).
I am probably going to reformat it as non-encrypted.
Just had a look at the 80 page thread on USB 3, is the bluetooth problem still present and the wake from sleep error?

Just curious - are all of your drive bays really full? The second DVD bay? What's your configuration? Boot/Data etc..

Update:
I have stuck with USB 2 (the bugs with USB 3 put me off).
Reformatted (non-encrypted) and started a fresh TM.
All up and running now with bags of space......😀
