Microsoft didn't copy Apple this time? That is a first.
Microsoft is one of the least original companies in the world.
Microsoft first became successful just by ripping off others.

I just find it ironic that they now have probably the most innovative OS in the market right now next to webOS and QNX. These live tiles are basically like widgets with pictures on them, but I can see where Microsoft is taking it instead of having to always open and close apps from iOS. I see Apple taking some of their ideas and then refining. There is no such thing as an ORIGINAL thought in technology anymore. It like in music. It has been conceived already. What they do is just rehash it or refine it.
I basically look at Android similar to what Windows went through. It copied iOS just like Microsoft copied Apple, but the "cheaper" OS may end up the more popular in the longer run. This happens alot of times even with video game consoles where there inferior specs tend to win because it was more affordable. Betamax was superior to VHS and still lost at the end.
And Windows didn't really get popular with consumers until Windows 95, it's 6th iteration after Windows 1.0, 2.0, 2.1x, 3.0, and 3.1x. That was a gap of TEN YEARS (1985-1995) until Windows became popular and very consumer-friendly. Vista was pretty, but WP7 is probably their best one and that took over 20 years. I can't expect Google to make an incredible OS overnight considering they are an internet company at heart, and lack the software expertise of Apple and Microsoft who have been around much longer.
Look at overall history with the desktop OSes. It can repeat in mobile OSes.
Without Android, iOS5 wouldn't have the features it has. Apple even copied RIM's BBM with iMessages and the JB dev community with the new lockscreen. OTA updates, Wi-Fi sync, less obtrusive notification system, 4+ inch screen, 1080p video recording, 8MP+ cameras, higher resolution screens, cloud services, NFC, etc. iPhones never had them first. Just wait when Apple starts to add a projector like Samsung already did with the Galaxy Beam or have the fingerprint scanner and laptop dock like the Motorola Atrix.
One thing I love about Google is they have the FASTEST BROWSER for the desktop and their Android phones. Google Chrome is BLAZING FAST compared to FireFox and Safari. Only Opera is just as fast.
Wait for Ice Cream Sandwich. Some of the features will likely be found in iOS6. But Apple will pretend they invented them and then sue everybody if they think they did.
Indeed, they ripped off OS/2 back in time making an awful non-multitasking clone monster they called Windows 3.0. They ripped Linux and introduced "revolutionary" Windows Vista. And this goes on and on... Even upcoming Windows 8 is a clone of webOS...
