Hmmm

Even if these are real parts, it looks like we buy the iPhone then buy all these accessories at inflated prices?

Now where have I heard that before! I get my iphone5 free, but will probably spend as much on kit for it.

The camera lens would be good if it's true, but to be honest, I use my proper cameras most of the time. With a proper lens adaptor I might use it more

My B&O headphones work fine. Were there issues with a particular model?

I've never had an iPhone in which the jack stick worked after approx. 10 months of heavy use. 2G, 3GS and 4 all died on me. Same symptoms.

I have the phone in an upper thigh pocket usually, and the continued flexing of my legs, when I move, makes the headphone jack twist the socket, increasing the inner space/diameter marginally, but enough that the contacts inside dont connect unless given very specific pressure.

At first I thought it was pocket lint and such, but after cleaning them religiously, the symptoms start appearing. Initially the headphones lose their ability to use the remote control to answer calls, or switch numbers etc. Then the microphone stops working, followed by sound distortion. And finally no sound.

B&O had had many complaints by the fact that their headphones didn't work properly with the iPhone 4 so they had to realeas an updated version. so they changed the jack slightly to accommodate the iPhone 4. i had an iPhone 4 at the time and i got the headphones as a gift for christmas and then i found they didn't work
So you DIDN"T have to buy another pair, as I know for a fact B&O offered an exchange policy. The problem was B&O's not Apple's.

Is someone going to do a side by side comparinson of the jack assemblies to see if they're thinner than the 4 to support the thinner iPhone 5 rumors?

If you have had such problems, then why haven't you invested in one of these...?

Go Nokia. Should have something nice cooking right now, to be released say... end of Feb.

Wake me up when LTE is actually a viable alternative to 3G in any appreciable area.
Sleep well for about a year. The vast majority of the people on this planet have no access to LTE and won't for another 12-18 months.

Of course, there will be inevitable responses to this about how so-and-so has had Verizon LTE in their neck of the woods for months, completely ignoring a global worldview and the fact that Apple sells half of its handsets internationally.

But perhaps you already knew that and you're just waiting to see if anyone else has a mindset that extends beyond U.S. borders.

Yes, a few of us are aware that Apple sees the global marketplace, not just the LTE coverage of one carrier in one market in which to based their component choices.

So anyone think there is a chance of them pushing up upgrade eligibility dates when the new iPhone is released?

I got my iPhone 4 the day before the launch (thanks Fed-Ex) so it has been a long time since I signed the new two year deal... I am not upgrade eligible until February...

OK. Here is your wake up call. Last time I checked a map, ATL, DC, Philly, NYC, Boston, Chicago, Indy, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Denver, LV, SD, LA, SF were all fairly appreciable population centers and all have VZW LTE service. ATT coming online 4Q and rapidly expanding 1Q 2012. Apple looks WW but the U.S. is still the #1 market and LTE chip won't be wasted on the Euro & Asian markets either. They are getting it sooner rather than later too.

Their article has a link BUT its only the front camera. NOt the more interesting back one.

it's not very interesting

Oh fudge!! :( That perfectly explains why they didn't post the picture so thanks for the replies, much appreciated :)

Can only hope for some more info soon? It's so confusing what exactly will be released though as I've read rumours about an entirely new device and rumours of an iPhone 4S. Apple have played it very sneaky this year.

Anyone notice that these headphone jack is using the new so-called "piston" type connectors. If I remember correctly, Apple filled for a patent a year ago. These new piston connectors take up less space than a traditional headphone jack.

This last sentence is key.

Apple has previously released handsets based on cellular network technologies that are already well-deployed and widespread at the time of the launch.

Saying that "Europe and Asia will get it soon" isn't well-deployed. It's vaporware until the networks are fully functional and welcoming consumer users.

Apple will not include LTE in the upcoming iPhone 5 because LTE has very worldwide deployment at this time. For Apple, the network comes first, then the handset.

The most probable scenario would be an HSPA+ handset from Apple. HSPA+ is widely deployed around the globe at this very moment, even AT&T has HSPA+ networks.

Besides, the current LTE chipsets are bulky and power hungry. Steve will not let the iPhone off its diet nor will he ship something with sucker battery performance.

Qualcomm allegedly will be sampling parts of their next generation LTE solution in late 2011, with production availability in early 2012. These newer, more efficient chipsets will be key for decent LTE handsets (vis-a-vis battery performance and weight).

Jack shows a lot.

The jack photo shows that the jack is flush with a flat bezel rather than some of the previous case releases show as a rounded bezel at top of phone. These jacks may be for the new cheaper 4s, who knows.

So now we know there will be a White one and a Black one, Shocking

Now let's just see if the White one is available on release day ?

i did have to buy a new pair. i had the EarSet 3 but they made me buy the EarSet 3i when it came out. and i believe its Apples fault for changing the jacks slightly.

I had no idea they existed :) On shopping list now ;)
No problem, let me know if you have problems sourcing - have one lying around somewhere unused.

B&O Europe offered to replace/exchange ES3's* for this very reason. I imagine that would have been the same in the US. You should have spoken to their CS reps rather than be fobbed off by a sales guy in-store if that's how it went down.

*assuming of course the ES3 were bought in early 2010 just prior to the iP4's launch that spring (as opposed to the previous 18 months where the ES3s were available)

Wake me up when LTE is actually a viable alternative to 3G in any appreciable area.

Already in 100 markets and 80 major airports, with 175 markets by the end of the year. By mid-2012, coverage for two-thirds of the US population.

Just because markets "have" 4G doesn't mean it's usably saturated. I'm in Phoenix and there was just a story on our local news from their "we fight fraud for your entertainment" departments about how this Sprint customer was upset over paying for 4G service that he wasn't able to actually take advantage of. They spoke to Sprint and various tech people and all said that 4G coverage is extremely spotty. Basically, the carriers are making sure to get at least a 4G tower or two wherever they can so they can claim they have coverage in all these cities, but you'll need to be within range of those very few towers to actually get it. So, realistically, it's as others have said before it's widespread - a year, 18 months, two years.

I got mine day of release and am eligible.
