Pocket-lint reports that it recently spotted an iPhone 4 user at a New York City press event sporting a white iPhone, which Apple has yet to publicly launch. While a number of users have created their own white iPhone 4s by replacing parts on their black iPhones with white ones from Asian suppliers, this user claims that his device is a legitimate white iPhone 4 secured for him by a friend at Apple.

According to the user, Apple's manufacturing partners are continuing to struggle with color consistency on the white iPhone 4, specifically with the white home button matching the color of the front face plate to Apple's standards.
Well, according to our jacket wearing gent, Apple is having trouble getting its two suppliers in the Far East to match the white used in the manufacturing of the parts. The white home button colour doesn't match the white front face plate colour, it turns out.

Apple being the perfectionist that it is, isn't happy with this and therefore isn't happy to sell it to the general public, supposedly.
Color issues have been proposed in the past as a possible source for the delays, as it is essentially the only difference between white and black versions of the iPhone. Other sources have claimed that Apple is attempting to deal with light from the iPhone's backlight leaking out through the less-opaque white back.

Regardless of the reasons for the multiple delays, Apple has offered no updates on its plans for the white iPhone since its late July announcement that the device would ship "later this year".

Well, with all the complaints about yellowing MacBooks, can you blame them for being picky?

But yes, an explanation would have been courteous.

Apple must be looking forward to iPhone 5. All in all, iPhone 4 has been quite a headache - a troubled product overall.

If there are many more delays, there won't be any point in Apple releasing the white version - the next iPhone will be out mid 2011 - and the white will remain as vapour!

I'm sure Apple will get the white iPhone 5 out much quicker...

Possible Colorwarez?

Anyway, my wife made me the return the black one I got her. She wants the white one. I'm sure Apple is losing sales because of the lack of a white phone. Women are crazy like that.

If it is taking THIS long to "get it right", I say cut your losses and move on. It shouldn't be this difficult to color match the parts.

And I seriously doubt that many people are holding off their purchase because of the white iPhone 4 (don't hold me to that though ;) ).

I doubt we will see it soon.... not before 2011....

When it does come out though, I'm all over that shiznit!

This is one of the differences between Apple and a lot of other manufacturers. Most wouldn't have cared.

Thats BS. Most would have cared and most would have said something. When profit is involved companies do what they can to keep and maintain while Apple relies on its name. Thats the difference. Like I said good for Apple on caring but shame on Apple for not telling their clients why they are waiting.

This "news" isn't really news at all. Nothing we didn't know. And no information about any release date.

Is it really surprising or news to anyone that there are a bunch of white iphones sitting in storage either in China or at Apple's HQ?

Not really. My Asus netbook is full of mismatched white panels made from different materials. Asus doesn't care about color [sic] matching. I'm sure it's the same for many others. Maybe Sony cares or Toshiba or some other higher end maker but most probably don't.

Asus doesn't represent all companies. Perhaps Asus didn't care?

Stop saying MOST. Apple is not special in this sense. Don't divert attention away from the fact that we still have no clue why the White iPhone is being delaying. Its speculation. I think Apple deserves telling us why.

Why bother anymore, really? They may as well just give up and make white an option for the 5th gen version.

And why is that wrong?

They made a couple of promises. Now if they break them, they could at least be sorry to the mass public which doesn't actually spoil the image, instead makes it better. It is a sign of a responsible company.

I really couldn't understand why Apple decided to keep silent on the white iPhone issue.

I wish to hear, cause I have been waiting for a very long time.

I also don't understand how people can stand up for Apple on this matter. If they are indeed colour matching than Bravo on them for waiting! Just please let the clients know. People have been waiting for a long time for what may be a phantom product and its all speculation that the colour matching is even the issue.

i wanted the white, gave up and got the black. do i regret it? no.

im due an upgrade next july anyway so i will just get the white one then!

With so many fragility issues dogging the iPhone 4 (not to mention reception problems), I can't see very many people using any iPhone without a case. That would hide most of the white iPhone's color anyway.

Maybe Apple could make it white with gold accents to match a Lexus.
