White iPhone 4 Delays Due to Light Leakage Affecting Camera Performance?

Surely they tested this with the prototypes?

There is an interesting back story to this one. Time for some investigative reporting other than just listening to press releases and interviews. Perhaps the demand for a white iPhone is softer than anticipated?

I hope they ditch the whole black or white thing with iPhone 5 and go for an iPad type look with black front and silver metal back. If you want to change the colour or customise it there are loads of cases and covers available anyway.

This is what worries me about product testing lately... there seems to be none...

I'm hoping Apple will learn from these many iPhone problems and be way more stringent with their prototype testing in the future.

If so, iPhone 5 should be a bad-ass mofo.

in 8 month they couldn't isolate the flash from the case with a black gasket or such?

I guess Steves desire for perfection didn't allow a small black rim around the flash and the camera to be visible. sad...

they should just scrap the white iphone 4 altogether, and concentrate on iphone 5 instead. not having a white iphone isn't the end of the world, and i'm sure most people will be ok with it.

surely this means light gets reflected by the white into the camera sensor - not light filtering through into the electronic innards of the phone?

I'm glad Apple's quality control isn't letting this out until it's right. If you can't have a properly working product, it's better to have none at all.

Too bad they didn't realize that before they put out the iPhone Bluetooth headset a few years ago.

Agreed, but if you can't produce a properly working product don't announce it at all.

Here's my take:

Because of the light seeping in or out or because of the two white colors (whatever)... Apple has just decided to never offer the iPhone 4 in white. They say Spring which will be an easy push to summer when they'll drop iPhone 5 on us, complete with black and white designs and we'll forget all about getting the iPhone 4 in white, even if they offer the "old" model at $99 which has been the trend.

Actually this makes no sense to me. The lens and the flash are both flush with the surface and are not obstructed by the case. The components are surrounded by a black film.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Ok right. A completely new redesign because of the light bleeding inside and affecting the camera. A thin piece of aluminum behind the glass would solve that problem without adding any additional weight. Guess the "new" redesign will also incorporate a better antenna and CDMA technologies.

Imagine if they had been sold before the issue was discovered...

Imagine the complaints of people who had a defective camera for 5 months

Apple is Lazy

hahaha,

Look who's calling the kettle black. First the antenna, then the clacking glass and now the white iphone.

Get it together Crapple.

No antenna issue is just like retarded users issue since the "problem" is same or worse usually on other pda and phones. My N73 loose 4 bars if i grad it covering the antenna and go down to no service. In the same room, same mobile operator iPhone just lose 2 if grabbed like you never do in real life.

get the facts instead of spreading FUD, users like yours are a cancer over internet.

I know we're not supposed to feed trolls, but ... yeah. It seems like your latest posts have just been bashing Apple, but the ones before that were just in the software development forum.

Really, I think Apple has their stuff together. Do you search out other tech forums and see the issues that other companies are having? I'm sure other companies have issues like this... like the Android phone that was having screen issues?

Back during the Cretaceous Period when the iPhone-4 first came out, I wanted the white model. By the time it’s released it will most likely be an updated version.

Honestly I don't get this. Why can't they just have matte black paint on the reverse side? Surely it can't be that difficult...

I would assume that's why you and others making the same point aren't engineers. I'm sure it's something they've thought of

to he honest, i am tired of hearing different reasons why apple keeps pushing back release the iPhone 4. why don't they come out and say that they are not gonna offer it in white and just go ahead with the iPhone 5 (or 4GS whichever they may have)? I love apple to death, but with most of the company's focus on iOS and iOS devices you'd think they would be able to get it right. i said this in another post last night but i think its time to bring the focus back to the mac and OSX. or at least half and half.

It's just a balance of the scales, really. Something had to take the place of Duke Nukem Forever on the "list of stuff we'll never see".

Now that actually makes some sense. But why wouldn't Apple just tell people that? Seems way less embarrassing than we can can't get the glass the same color.

I'm confident that there'll be no white iPhone 4, but I also suspect that the iPhone 5 is going to use the same external case, with the changes all being internal. So solving this problem will just enable them to roll out the black and white iPhone 5s at the same time.

This is the first generation of iPhone that I'll have ended up skipping. Which I guess is just a testament to how nice the 3Gs was -- I've felt perfectly happy using it these extra months even though I knew there was something better out there.
