Why the hell would anyone expect that the color of the phone changes reception of the phone?

If I paint my silver car in bright red, does it then go faster or slower?

Faster, everything knows red cars go faster!

Can someone explain to me how to check the proximity sensor? Covering it up doesn't do anything - and I think I know where it is. I do know I have ended calls or put them on speaker with the side of my face. Both of those just happened yesterday. Add in horrible (Vegas) coverage and placing a call is an adventure. I can drop a call sitting still...in my house...with a micro-cell.

You've done it. Its main purpose is to turn off the display when the phone's up to your ear while talking/listening on a phone call. It prevents your ear or face from possibly ending your call, muting your call, turning the speaker on, etc.
You can cover it with your finger, after a call is connected, and shut off the display to see it work. Just don't put it up to your ear or u won't see the display go dark.

death grip black vs. white

Moments after my above post I pulled out my iphone4 (black) took off it's case,
made sure I was on 3G and applied the "death grip". Phone did what it has always done - 3 bars went to 2, the 2 went to 1. The number of bars doesn't
really matter, just that they decreased. But today something new happened, the progression continued - 1 bar went 0 bars and the word searching appeared on the screen. I hadn't seen that since traveling across country on
Amtrak and being out of EDGE range in several places far from cities.(With a 3G)
Have never
dropped a call that I remember, probably just lucky to be in a good signal area
when using the phone and always having a case on it.
Right after this "test" I went to a workmate who purchased the white iPhone4
over the weekend and asked if I could check hers to see if I could cause the
signal strength to go down. Same grip, same no case, same 3 bars at the start
and no signal loss whatsoever. Held at three bars. Have no idea if this would
be true for all White models.
