Brits pay less than a pound a year each for the monarchy. If the Apple Tax was that low I'm sure no one would mention it either. I'm not sure a president would cost much less.

As for the phone, I think the white face emphasizes just how small the screen is compared to the rest of the phone.
I honestly couldn't agree more.
I don't care if the backside of the phone is white or otherwise-colored (hence why cases look nice and also why I think the old white iPhone3G/3GS looks fine), but having the frontside white-colored takes away from the minimalist look for me when the display is off. It also makes it glaringly obvious how little of the front face is actually used for the display and how much space is used for bezel. (Although, to be fair, I also have this problem with the new MacBook Airs, which I think are otherwise the most beautiful laptop designs I've ever seen) For me, there's something about the black bezel on the regular iPhones or MacBook Pros that trick the eye into thinking the entirety of the space is usable while in the off position, while the bezel tends to fade into the background and disappear while the displays are lit up. Something about the white bezel here just distracts me.
This is just my own personal opinion, just saying -- if you love it, more power to you and enjoy your new phone!
I too have to agree... IMHO I think that the picture in the story makes it look unattractive. With the screen on, however, it might be a different story... but your screen isn't on all the time. Idk, I guess I'd have to see one up close to really decide, but I've always liked the look of the black/aluminum. But as was said, if you love it - congrats and enjoy!
Finally, a viable opposition to that horrendous rolling-eyes smilie; an individual post rating system.

I was wondering why I was thinking the white iPhone looks great in some photos and 'just not right' in others, same for iPad 2. I realized that the pictures where I think the white looks great are all pictures where it's together with the black one, and it's not looking quite right in pictures where it's on it's own.

What the heck is wrong with you. Some of the things you write is simply beyond belief. This is exactly the type of garbage that is posted in the Android forums. I for one do not want this site turning into that type of forum. Leave it where it belongs and that is not on this site.
I would think that if Apple is offering the white version of the iPhone 4 then they will probably offer a white iPhone 5. Personally I like the white color. I like it because it is a throw back to the days when Apple was offering all white computers. This is the same reason why I like the white iPad over the black iPad. Mark my words, the other manufacturers will follow with white colored phones.
Nothing but a bunch of sorry azz haters in here! Since most of the folks in this thread are not eligible to upgrade to the White iphone or eithier can't afford the white iphone, i guess they figure it's just better to hate on the white iphone since they can't have it!
I'm an all black kind of guy even when it comes to clothing. Yet I'd still put this white 4 to use. Looks different. I'm always down with different.
I used to work for Vodafone UK. This kind of cock-up is absolutely standard procedure for them.
And is it just me, or does the first image look wrong? The right hand side of the iPhone should go straight down, but it pans out to the right, as if it's been twisted. Bad photo work by Apple if that's a genuine photo. I don't think the photo is real though. Personally I think Apple are shipping them in the same boxes the black ones come in, just with a label saying white (standard for most other manufacturers to do this), and someone's photoshoped the box to make it look cool.

I saw that at first too. But I think the distortion is because of the angle, if you look at the way the box itself seems to taper out towards the bottom it seems to match the way the iPhone's sides taper outward too.
