Best Buy installed iPhone Zagg Invisible Shield, then said we had to be careful handling our iPhones for 12-24 hours. (Black iPhone works fine; white's proximity sensor stopped working.)

In looking at Zagg site, I found this FAQ:

Installation video starts with the instruction to leave device off 12-24 hours.

We both used our phones during this period. Did others who have had no problem follow Zagg instructions? Did others with Best Buy installation get the proper instructions?

Best Buy installed ours. No such instructions.

put on the power support crystal film on the white 4 last night and the proximity sensor is working perfectly.. no problems at all.

it looks like it's just the POS zagg films and a few others that have the problem lol.

Best Buy made good

On May 4, my wife and I bought iPhone 4s at Apple Store – mine black, hers white. Then had Best Buy install Zagg Invisible Shields on front of both phones. My wife later noticed her phone screen didn’t turn off during calls (mine worked fine). Found four discussions of the issue (listed below), with Zagg covering the white proximity sensor evidently being the problem.

Went to an iPhone class at the Apple Store, and they confirmed that the problem was the shield blocking the proximity sensor. (BTW, also found out that none of the Apple Store employees used a screen cover because the quality of the iPhone 4 glass is so high.)

Then returned to Best Buy. Employee removed Zagg and proximity sensor began working. No problem in returning the Zagg Invisible Shield, and getting our money back for both the product and Best Buy’s installation. (Interestingly, the employee also had a white iPhone without a screen cover.)

IMPORTANT:Best Buy employee said cutting a hole for the proximity sensor would void the Zagg warranty.

Yeah I heard about a difference in the proximity sensors, something to do with the way the light hits it with a screen protector. Makes it so that the sensor doesn't function.

I've been experiencing this problem with the wrapsol...

I don't understand it... When I cover the proximity sensor with my thumb, the phone still doesn't cut off (it's the white iphone 4)... or is the sensor somewhere else? (I thought it was the black above the earphone right?)?

I called apple today and they are sending me a new iphone (they waived the 29$ shipping fee when I complained) and even sent me AV component cables, Nike pedometer for the shoe thing, and a apple remote control... I couldn't believe it...

awesome huh? I thought it was the phone the whole time... it still might be right? (I had to talk to a supervisor to get the free shipping and he just threw in the 3 things because I've had problems with my macbook pro, and airport extreme, super cool guy to do this) I honestly wasn't mean or anything, he was just a nice guy and threw those things in... only thing that sucks is they put a hold on my credit card for 699...

he promised the iphone will be new... (I have a problem with paying so much for a phone and getting a refurb sent to me...) even though they are perfect right?

thanks!

Same problem

Just wanted to post that I am having the same problem. I've always used Zagg Invisible Shields on all my apple products (except ipad). Bought my wife 16 g white iPhone 4 & had Invisible Shield installed at Mall kiosk. Finally noticed why she kept hitting the mute button during calls this weekend. I'll remove the IS tonight & see if the problem is corrected. Zagg should definitely have a cut out for sensor.

Our White iPhone4 films are now available, with cut outs for the proximity sensors.

Available @ wrapsol.com!

For anyone who purchased one of our previous iPhone4 products thinking it would fit the White iPhone4, they can contact support@wrapsol.com for a free replacement product!

EDIT (5/25): Just to clarify on the replacement issue. If you purchased a Wrapsol iPhone 4 product via our website, and it did not have the proximity sensor cut, you can request a free replacement per our warranty.

If you purchased a Wrapsol product via a retailer, you need to return to return it with them.

I actually went into Apple and had them take a look at my phone. The tech stated that the White iPhone's proximity sensor is completely different from the Black and that it is more sensitive. They basically stated that PS is the only screen shield that does not affect the proximity sensor. <-- lame

I am a big fan of the SGP Steinheil screen shields. When I had the Black iP4, I had the Oleophobic and loved it. When I got my White iP4 and installed the Oleophobic, the proximity sensor did not work. SGP did post some test videos on Youtube

I had ordered the Ultra Fine and.... it actually faild. SGP was kind enough to send out replacements and other items as a complimentary gift.

At this time, I am still using the Oleophobic... I did cut out a section of the screen shield for the proximity sensor. I am very detailed and basically have a perfect cut out... SGP has not stated if they will be re-designing their screen shields, but I am sure a lot of companies out there will start due to all the complaints they are having.

I have also seen posts where Apple is advising consumers like us to just not have a screen shield because the glass is different also... I don't know about that, but protection is always good in my opinion...

anyhow, thought i'd share my 2 cents...

Just went to order a replacement zagg and noticed they have a new "White" model cutout available. I don't know when it went up could have been a while ago but I'm glad to see they took care of it. Cause it totally crapped my proximity sensor from working at all.

Zagg White iPhone Invisible Shield

I did order the white version online last week. It does have a new cutout for the sensor at the top above the earpiece cutout.
My only gripe is that they now have a black "ZAGG(c)" logo right next to the sensor, which on the white iPhone is very noticeable. On any other phone this may be fine, but for the type of people willing to pay for a high design iPhone, that seems like a really tacky design decision. I would look elsewhere if you care about how your phone looks.
