Service unit swap, new or refurbished

If i go swap now will it be new or refurbished, i have scuff on my phone

Just got back from Apple store 14st in NYC. Had to go through 3 phones before I got one without nicks, dents, etc. The genius chick said even a few of her coworkers had exchanged phones because of issues. She said black is worse with discoloration issues. Apple Has a huge mess on its hands.

I was talking with my Apple business acct rep today at my local store. He said they went through "tons" of phones when setting up for the launch because so many were damaged. Nice job Apple.

I doubt it's going to pose a problem, but it's just a matter of fact. The iPhone 5 is a build quality failure, FAR from a "jewel" of a phone.

Yea, I'm living with a few dings here and there, but nothing major. Going to stick with it (for now) as I'm not confident my odds for the return "lottery" at this point. Naturally, I'm anxious to see how things end up after a week or two passes - both for user experiences regarding durability and for reports of build quality on new "batches".

Not sure if I want to bother with a replacement, but mine also has a nick in the back aluminum. White 32GB ordered from Apple. The earpods case is also a mess. That's not a big deal at all, but when you open the box up and the first thing you see are shadows all over because of the scuffs on the plastic, it's kind of lame.

I originally thought something was just stuck under the plastic making it bubble up like that because there was dust/lint/whatever and the earpods case was sloppy. But after taking the plastic off the back, the space doesn't come off and I'm afraid to try too hard for fear of just making it worse.

Like everyone has said, it's not hugely noticeable and I'm sure it will see worse damage as I use it, but it shouldn't come that way.

I had a nick looking spot in the same spot. Was bummed. Then I tried cleaning it. At first it didn't want to come off, but I got it to rub out, same with any marks along the band and beveled edges. IMHO, some of these just need to be polished up well with a microfiber cloth.

It is real shame that apple did not make phone of titanium alloy or metal ceramics at this price point. I understand that greed makes world go round, but making customers a bit more happy would create positive carma for steve and apple :)

Add another iPhone 5 to the bunch. Brand new White 64GB version...

Calling Apple tomorrow morning.

To those who got a replacement, did Apple replaced from the new iPhone 5 boxes or did they pull out like a small box with the iPhone 5 on it that probably look like when you're getting a refurbished one?

When I went to get mine replaced they won't get the one from the new boxes but instead pulled out one in those little boxes. I was surprised they have those already on launch day  I don't think they're refurbished though anyway especially this early. :p

My white was perfect. Dont have a case yet, but took it out with me today and even though I was very very careful with it. I got a little nick in the bezel. The metal is very very soft. Which is why these scuffs from the factory are happening.

This is why I'm glad I'm in a s cycle. Next time they will improve the process, assuming same form factor.

I find it funny that apple spent a lot of time in their promo video touting the creation process and this is what came of it.

Ikr might as well go back to android :(

same here i had marks on the back that looked like inconsistencies in the finish but after a lot of scrubbing with a micro fiber and some screen cleaner and its all gone! it was extremely hard to get off but it does seem to be just residual glue.

This is the typical Internet effect. One person mentions a tiny issue or imperfection, then has everyone going completely OCD trying to look for problems. Finally you have an epidemic. I have dozens of bare aluminum and anodized aluminum things in the house. From handguns to MacBooks, not a single one is free of such tiny nicks you folks are obsessing over.

News flash, aluminum is soft.

The fact that most of these photos I need to zoom in to even see the "problem" tells me this is mostly Internet hysteria.

White 64 gb. Pretty good size dent at top left corner where mirror bevel meets Al band. Will not return as rest of phone fine but I am surprised at poor QC.

Are you kidding me? It needs to be replaced! Especially that it's at the top of the device. You'll be seeing it every time you use an iPhone. It's unacceptable, especially for a brand new device. Of course the choice is yours...

Just looked mine over and there are zero marks of any kind on my white 16gb. Just to throw in some positive feedback with the negative.

I feel bad because a small blemish doesn't make much of a difference to me! I know it'll get normal wear and tear here soon anyway. Really happy I went with white though! It's gorgeous.

My white 16GB was flawless. I got full body protection right away. Now my iPhone is fully protected.

Went to the apple store and they swapped it no problem. Said I wasn't the only one. New phone is perfect!

Everyone just needs to order a magnum condom and slide their precious iPhone in it so it doesn't get aids.

Ok kidding aside, my phone isn't here yet and the only reason i'd return it is for chips, little scratch here and there is going to happen anyway, but I don't drop my phone ever.
