Got mine about an hour ago:

Anyone know what ID I have to take with me if I go into O2 store? This is for an upgrade, but as I moved last week my driving licence is off with the DVLA, I have bank statements and stuff and my cards, is that enough?

At the O2 store I visited, there were no queues at all. They had only had a delivery of five white iPhones, however; I merely asked on the off-chance. This was the O2 store on the Strand in London. It's worth ringing around or dropping in if possible, since that store was not one listed on the website as being one with any stock.

All I needed to upgrade was my mobile number, and a credit/debit card.

just got back from O2 whiterose Leeds. They had 8 x white ones in. Now to pop it open and put my sim in.

I'd been waiting ages for the White one and for some strange reason I actually phoned Lincoln o2 store this morning and asked if they had any white ones, and serendipity had it that this morning they took delivery of their first 10 white iPhones.

In at 12.30, out by 1 with a white iPhone in a bag and my black one in my back pocket.

Get in.

About bloody time!

You cant cancel your first account without getting charged cancelation chargers unless you dont have long to go anyway. I have another 14months yet so they wont do it.

I think I give in. I'm having to spend way to much time getting different answers from both Apple and O2 and its worn me out. Im going to go upgrade to a black 8gig and thats that.

Hi guys and gals, its me, your friendly thread starter!

I started this thread and almost a month ago posted the above.
I did what I said I was going to do and upgraded to a black 8gig, kidding myself that it was the better option anyway. A few days later I took it back as the silent switch wasn't quite right and it was bugging me. Also the music would sometimes not continue after been stopped by the headphones.

The first O2 store said my silent switch was fine and that I had to see the Apple store about the other problem. Knowing that this was bollocks I went to a second O2 store who exchanged without a problem.

A few days ago, the alarm sounded on my iPhone to get me up for work (FU work) and it sounded quite. Upon playing music I could hear the problem. One of the speakers had packed in! *sigh* So off I went to exchange AGAIN.

I went to the store that the **** works at and peered through the window. He wasn't working, so I entered the shop!
I asked; "Got any white one's?" He replied; "Yes, but you cant exchange yours for one now, sorry".
Thinking "FU! I've had enough of this ****", I made up a lie; "Oh, your other store said it would be fine!". "Just a second" he said and returned a minute later with a white 16 gig sexually active piece of machinery.

Some evidence below. It seems to be nationwide but if it helps I visited the Meadowhall, Sheffield store. I'm happy everyone can now enjoy getting the product they deserve!

Just got back from Merry Hill branch, they had 10 white ones in and I was the first person to want one, they asked if I would open the box to show them as they hadn't seen one yet! Didn't bother me, I'm not precious about having to open the plastic at home. Got a free sim so I could give my lad my 2g one, hes over the moon!

you've got to love the carphone warehouse

I just phoned my local branch and was told that the white iPhone would definitely not be released until " at least Christmas" !!

I told them to check their own website ...

I just went to the CPW and pretended my Black upgrade was crashing and they let me swap it for a white one. They got 3 in this morning but they didn't believe they sold white ones as when searching on the computer for it they where looking for 8GB white phones so no wonder they tell people they aren't in stock.

Thanks to this post, I phoned my O2 store and they said they have 10 whites in stock. Quickly rush to the store and made some lame excuse like random phone disconnect when using 3G network, and random apps crashes. They try to adjust my settings but I insist to swap or cancel contract since i only had it over 2 weeks. They said as it was *upgraded* within 28 days I can swap the phone but any further faults with the new phone they would have to send it for repair. So I got the white one. :D

I still haven't got my new iPhone working. I'm taking it down to an Apple Store later today to see if they can get it activated.

UPDATE: They couldn't. The first thing the Genius said when he saw the problem was "I've never seen that before"... then he replaced it. I've gone from waiting 6 weeks to get a white iPhone to getting two in two days :p

I just went to the CPW in Liverpool and pretended my Black upgrade was crashing and they let me swap it for a white one. They got 3 in this morning but they didn't believe they sold white ones as when searching on the computer for it they where looking for 8GB white phones so no wonder they tell people they aren't in stock.

Bugger, I am the worst liar in the world and wouldn't be able to do this. ARGH! This is beyond frustrating now. Am stuck with a black one that I never wanted.

Me too, although truthfully I wasn't telling a lie and they asked no questions. I got the 2G iPhone launch day and didn't have any problems but in the first 2 weeks of owning a 3G I did over ten restores and random hangs. I guess a lot of people have had problems but I may as well get the white iPhone I originally wanted while under warranty.

Whoa hold on, they replaced it for freezing? I mustn't have read your post properly. I have to reset my one about once a day as it freezes and shuts down. I didn't think this was a replacement type issue though, just a software one. I've got mine on the 18.07 though so have had it more than 28 days.

If only you'd read this. ;)

I'm glad I hadn't and neither had the clerk otherwise I wouldn't have gotten a white exchange :D besides something was wrong. It had become very quiet.

April Dancer if you need to restart your phone every day, somethings not right!

Well my phone has just frozen and restarted itself for the third time this morning  so I'm going to see if I can exchange it, even for a black one at this stage. But, what I also forgot to ask was, those of you that have exchanged your phones, did you originally get them instore or online? When I enquired about cancelling when I first got it due to the not being white issue, I was told that online sales were separate to instore sales and I had to go online.

I exchanged mine from the same O2 store I upgraded from. The sales assistance remembered me and it made it easier for me.
As O2 online now have them in white, if I were you I would call them and explain the situation i.e. about the fault and how unhappy you are (which is not a lie). You may have a case because they never have stock online and there there was no one you could turn do. At the same time, it wouldn't hurt try the store as well.

EDIT: My bad, misread earlier and thought it was O2 online that have them in white..

Got mine!

After reading all the comments here I phoned O2 in Aberdeen, yep they had some in stock. Went in at lunchtime, no queues. Nice and quick walked out with a white iPhone. Happy customer.

The guy in the shop didn't seem to get all the fuss. Why would I wait for a white one? He said they're both the same just a different colour back! obviously not a mac owner!

Setting mine up now, the software update is a bit slow, but after a long time to get a white iPhone I can wait!

Wonder when O2 will announce on the website they have white ones!!!

Before I faint with shock...

CityLink just turned up with a parcel for me from CPW. It's my White iPhone upgrade :)

There's no SIM extraction tool in the box and no dock (unlike 1st gen) but the important bits are there. So I bent a paperclip to open the SIM tray, swapped in my original iPhone SIM and connected to iTunes. All went swimmingly :)

Very happy bunny (and, frankly, amazed that CPW kept their promises)... still no news from O2 on their white iPhone stocks (although this forum suggests stock is trickling through).

Just to re-iterate though... the CPW website does not have an upgrade option. Upgrade options for white appear to be:

  • Try local store (CPW or O2)
  • Phone CPW using the number on the website.
  • Lie to Apple (and hope they buy it... not recommended)
