It is 8:40AM on Monday morning... Again Sony has denied price drops until the day/m inute they annouced it. This has been said at least 2 times in previous posts....

Agreed. I believe this price drop is coming but they do not want to deter any potential buyers before it happens. A $299 white PS3 with the updated controllers would probably be what gets me to finally buy one. Though I would miss backwards compatibility, the sub-300 price range for gaming/high-definition movie watching would make up for it.

I had forgot about this aspect - you would not be able to play PS2 or PSX games on this version of the PS3, correct? Ah well, I'd still have my PS2 if I really wanted to I guess.

Heh, if Sony drops the price, you know MS is gonna slash the 360 prices too to try to keep up.

If they dont, they're gonna get slaughtered.

I still find it interesting that PS2 is still over 100 dollars, I remember around this time in the PSones life it was 50 bucks. Hell, before the PS2 even came out, PSone was 100.

As soon as the PS3 drops to 300 dollars for the low end version, I will be giving sony my money. BC is not that big of a deal for me, as I have a ps2 anyway. Currently the only games I still play on it are DDR and not too much else. My 360 tends to take up more of my time. I just want a cheap blu ray player.

Come on sony, think of all the consoles you will sell with a very little attach rate! Err...think of all the blu ray software sales you could be getting!

Simple question:

Is there any benefit to having a larger HDD model as opposed to the 40 GB?
What do you actually require the HDD space for and how quickly would it be consumed? Is is solely for saving data (i.e. a replacement for the PSX and PS2's memory card) or are there other uses for it as well (e.g. playing games from it as opposed to off the disc?)

Forgive my ignorance, just wondering. :)

^You can store music, photos, movies, games...download games from PSN and you can install the game disc like Unreal on the HDD so load times can drop to basically zero. The drives can be swap out by the user so changing the HDD to a larger one is not a big deal and its really easy.

I haven't replace my HDD as yet...I still got alot of space left on this 60 but I will update it with a bigger drive soon.

Bless

^ I wish more games had a full install option.

Motorstorm with it's KILLER load times even for selecting your vehicle kills me each time I play it. Why couldnt they have let us install it to the HDD

Thanks for the info, that's what I suspected. :)
