Very sad, just goes to show that being a superstar comes with pressure, temptation and many just can't cope. When you are at the top riding the crest of a wave, hangers on etc. will be there. It's an unreal world, and when your career starts to decline you look for anything that might give you the same feeling of happiness.

Drugs won't do it, but many turn in that direction...48 is way too young yes, but look at Amy Winehouse. So much talent, but she just couldn't cope.

R.I.P. Whitney.

Another fading legend has died :-( wasn't ever the biggest fan, but appreciated her none the less. Actually I did love her last ever album though, thought it had some cracking tunes.

A sad turn of events but will it act as a cautionary tale to others in that industry.... Probably not. There's alyways been something rather sleezy behind the scenes in the showbiz industry and the industry party scene. I'm not saying it promotes drug use, but speaking to a number of friends who moved over to the states to break into the music industry, the tales are not good and always have a dark recurring theme.

Sad day for her daughter. Peace and love to the child, and I hope she doesn't ever go down her moms path.

"Did you know that Whitney Houston’s debut LP called simply Whitney Houston, had four number one singles on it? It’s hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks. But The Greatest Love of All is one of the best and most powerful songs ever written about self preservation and dignitiy. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it’s not too late to better ourselves since it’s impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It’s an important message, crucial really, and it’s beautifully stated on the album." - Patrick Bateman

Exactly what I thought of when I read the news. Got to love "American Psycho".

In my mind, "One Moment In Time" remains one of the most inspirational songs ever recorded. It's the one I listen to when I want to rise above it all.

I am saddened because here was a great singer whose career was effectively ruined by too much illegal drug consumption. :( It was very well-known that Houston was battling a drug abuse problem, and she never completely overcame that problem.

If you are famous, you'll get a lot of RIPs, based on your talent/former talent, but not necessarily based on your qualities as a human being. It can be rightly viewed as a tragedy, from the aspect of someone who held the world in their fingers metaphorically, but then threw it away or a situation robbed them of it and we are aware of those people. However if you are a nobody, you are just part of a faceless group, the victim of genocide or mass starvation, not really viewed to have worth as that star was viewed. The lesson is to become famous and you'll get strangers to love you. ;)

Her death took me by suprise ... like Etta and Amy, she had pure soul ... Whitney was an icon and will missed by many:(

Shocking?!? Did it blow your minds when Amy Winehouse died too? Be sad. Be angry. But shocked?

RIP Whitney...

I had to think of this quote as well. :)

Big Fan of Hers

Rest in peace Whitney.

Love her or hate her, I hope you just remember her as the wonderful artist she was. She is truly the singer's singer, not only blessed with a remarkable voice, but an unmatched emotion and an artistry that still amazes me, years after listening to her records and countless live performances.

You could be a 15 year old girl or a 50 year old butch man, or anything in between, but you have to have a Whitney song, or maybe a couple, or maybe a few. Forget everything you heard, forget 'crack is wack' and the mockery of internet, just remember that song, thank the woman, and hope that she finds the peace she deserves in heaven.

Sadly however, it is not in the Internet to blame for the assosciation of drug abuse and Whitney Houston. Plenty of people wanted her to take drugs out of the equation (heck even Bobby is reported to be clean these days) but the fact remains that tarnished image is just as much of her legacy as the music. Both are entwined, both are the reflection of the Whitney we saw.

The only person to blame for tarnishing that image is Whitney and the facilitators who enabled her to get the drugs.

Didn't like her or her music. The stupendous Etta James dies and not a peep on here, get a grip people.
They were BOTH great in their own ways... can you respect the dead and NOT take sides children?

I've no idea, but the article suggests Apple increased the price.

The music label sets the wholesale price and Apple has a fixed markup. You can bet this is the label capitalizing on her death, and not Apple. They will make more in the next few weeks than they did in the last several years.

I don't have any of her music, but she did have a classic voice and good stage presence (in her 80s heyday at least).

There's still one thing I wanna know, though: Did she ever get her skrimps? :p

/...too soon?

My ears now bleed every time I her a clip of 'I Will Always Love You'.
