Apple isn't going to release any brand new hardware without an event, that is a fact, 13" MacBook would only be announced and shown in an event. It ain't gonna happen this year, unless they have a special event late 2018, where they could also show AirPower, AirPods 2, 13" MacBook, a new budget Air etc = it could happen.

I disagree but we will see this year I guess, I tend to believe Mark Gurmam, he has inside information and then with Ming Chi Kuo also reporting on the same thing makes it even more believable for me. Details we don’t know but it’s not really brand new hardware when it it’s an extension of the current MacBook or MacBook Air, it’s just another version of it.

We shall see, time will tell :)

I can guarantee you it won't happen, no silent new hardware releases = it doesn't make sense. Apple would not do anything like that.

You can’t guarantee it, no one can do that, the best we can do is give our opinions and what we think. Mark Gurman is very reliable and add in Ming Chi Kuo and I believe what they are saying about this.

Personally I think your confusing it for new hardware, if the MacBook was a complete redesign I would agree with you but it won’t be, it’s simply going to be either a 13” version of the current MacBook or a cheaper MacBook Air, neither of those need their own event, it’s possible that they could announce it as a side tnote like last years Mac updates at WWDC which took all of about a minute to announce.

September will already be having the new iPhone’s (3 of which are said to be announced) then there is new Apple Watch Series 4, and a redesigned iPad Pro with Face ID.
I don’t remember a time when Apple announced new Mac’s at a September event for a simple spec update or to announce a new version of something.

That would then leave October, I just don’t think they will hold an October event to come on stage and say “and here are the new Mac’s which will be getting spec bumps with new processors, we are also introducing a new 13” version of the MacBook” (or cheaper MacBook Air).

If there are new AirPods (which are rumoured) and AirPower (which Apple is aiming for a September release, Mark Gurman has already mentioned) they won’t be announced at an October event.

It would be new hardware, 13" MacBook, never been done before. And I am not talking about 13" Pro's or Air's, it would be a fanless 13" MacBook. It's like saying an iPhone X Plus doesn't need an event, cos it's just an inch bigger than the X. I don't want to argue with you, but that's what you are basically saying.

Apple will not release a brand new hardware - 13" MacBook silently, its either in an event or NOT AT ALL.

The iPhone X Plus is being announced alongside other phones so no, plus the iPhone is Apple’s main seller so they will hold an event for iPhone like they always do in September.

We shall see what happens, could go either way. Let’s leave it at that.

I’m not arguing, I’m politely disagreeing after all its nothing worth arguing about it’s only technology and rumours, which everyone will have an opinion about :)

I'm waiting for the spec bumps, i suspect Apple do a silent update especially after the recent report that they have registered five new MacBooks models with the EEC. They will probably be the MacBook Pro's and the MacBook spec update or possibly the rumoured 13" version of the MacBook.
QUOTE="Clix Pix, post: 26222033, member: 59598"]I love my 2017 MacBook and even if some spec bump is announced this year, I won't be interested, as my machine has what I want (512 GB, i7 processor and 16 GB RAM) and is fast and so lightweight, super-portable.[/QUOTE]

To me, the only update that might cause some questions/envy pangs would be a significant keyboard update that changed the reliability question a lot, but it would take 3-6 months minimum to really demonstrate that, which is a long T&E wait. And at least with the rMB, keyboard reliability seems not to be a big issue, unlike the rMBP models.

The only ppl having problems with keyboard are the ones who eat lunch on top of the keyboard!!

I don't think that's the case at all, in fact i think you will annoy people who have had issues with their keyboards saying that, also Apple wouldn't of issued the repair programme if that was the case.

Also, every other keyboard in the world has figured out the eat on top of keyboard problem, so Apple’s fancy keyboard should have started with that as a premise.

Well appearantly the main reason for unresponsive keys is bread crumbs getting stuck under the keys... Go figure.

Fancy. Nah, just revolutionary. It's more of a minor than major problem

If Apple has to have a special warranty extension program specifically to address the problem, then no it is not a minor problem.

After seeing yesterday's (U.K time) report by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg i'm definitely waiting until the September or October event, in the video part of the report Mark Gurman refers to this lower cost Mac as a "MacBook" and an "Air replacement" i think that we will see the following:

12" updated spec
13" MacBook - new size and higher specs for those that want them but don't need Pro specs

At this point i think if the above happens Apple will drop the price of the 12" MacBook (after all it has been around since 2015 and costs may of dropped) and start the 13" MacBook at either $1,100 or $1,200 with build to order configurations available.

If Apple do this i will get the 13" MacBook, let me explain my reasoning, for months i have been going between getting the 13" MacBook Pro or the 12" MacBook, i love the 13" screen but i also love how thin and light the 12" MacBook actually is, it's a brilliant design that i have wished they would do in a 13" form factor for a while.

If they do release a 13" version it would be interesting to see if they also keep the same colours, i would love to get a 13" MacBook in either Space grey or the gold.

Link to the Mark Gurman/Bloomberg report is below, what do you think of it? would a 13" MacBook with maybe higher specs to replace the Air attract you too it? will you buy one?

I hope they manage to retain the ridiculous battery life of the previous generation models - it was one of the best features of the original Macbook Air. Hopefully they don't shave it to a 10 hour battery time (and you only hit that if you do very little) to make it a bit thinner...

I really also hoped that they would finally upgrade that web cam of theirs, but since they didn't on the Pro line, it is almost certain they won't in this refresh.

According to the Bloomberg article and Mark Gurman the new "MacBook" will "look similar to the current MacBook Air but will include thinner bezels around the screen" Yea i get what you mean about the battery life tho, 12 hours would be great packed into:

An Air style design
Retina display 13"
12 hour battery life
better specs than the 12" BUT not has high as the MacBook Pro, somewhere in the middle to bridge the gap

That would be perfect and an instant buy for me regardless of whether they call it Air or MacBook. Also if they put the battery stack design from the MacBook into this 13" version surely it could get more battery life? 12 hours could work given a 13" would be a bigger laptop and have more space for battery? just a thought.

The new model should effectively be an updated non-touch bar version of the MacBook Pro (aka based, on 15w U processors). Considering the touch bar versions got a battery bump of around 10%, they can do the same to the same nTB chassis.

It's not a MacBook Pro, the new 13" is being referred too as a "MacBook" and as i quoted is similar looking to the Air, my guess is Apple are going to add a 13" version to the Macbook lineup OR they could just redesign the Air but that would be confusing for people to choose between the MacBook and a updated Air.

The non-touch bar isn't really a "Pro" either, yes it is called a "Pro", but spiritually it is the Air successor. Why? It had an upgraded 15w CPU (Air's run on 15w CPU's), it got a retina screen, it got other upgraded hardware. The new Air that is due to be released can't be much different to the non-touch bar version of the MacBook "Pro". The 12" MacBook's run on 4.5w fanless CPU's so that's how they differentiate themselves from the 13" nTB/Air's.

(Apple generally use 28w CPU for 13" Pro laptops and 45w CPU's for 15" Pro laptops. They introduced a 15w CPU version of the Pro instead of a new MacBook Air for reasons I don't know).

This is likely to be a rebranding of the 13" nTB MacBook Pro, rather than a completely different machine I reckon.

Maybe they will take it from under the Pro name and rebrand it to either the Air or MacBook family, i guess time will tell and i would agree with you had Bloomberg and Mark Gurman not released that article which makes it sound like it will be a new Air or MacBook. don't forget the Air is 10 years old this year and i could see Apple using that anniversary as a way to rebrand or redesign the Air.

13” MacBook would be cool, replacing the Air, would it be fanless, what would be the specs? Can’t wait for the event.

@Dave, I still recommend for you to get the 13” 2017 MBP nTB.
