To be honest with you, I don't think I've ever encountered black jelly beans – whenever I come across jelly beans they're in all the colours of the rainbow, but never black.

Now, black midget gems are another matter. No one likes those – in fact, when I was little my dad used to tell me a very thought provoking story about them. ;)

I love black jellybeans, although most of my friends hate them. I once put them out at a party and told people they were "black chocolate eggs" and hilarity ensued.

everyone is assuming that black jelly beans are licorice (stereotype). a black jelly bean could be molasses, or root beer, or w/e.

disliking a jelly bean solely by its color is prejudicial and discriminatory.

black jelly beans are contraindicated for a lot of medications -- beta blockers, cholesterol pills, coumadin, etc.

i may be in error on the specific medications i listed, but i do know you're not supposed to eat licorice with several types. i was taking something about a year ago and the md told me to stay away from licorice because it would interfere with the absorbtion/elimination of the pills i was on. can't remember the pill (it was probably something for my non-existent memory).

licorice cannot mix with medications for syphillis... that's probably what your doctor was referring to?

Black licorice and katie ta achoo's thread on fried wheat gluten make me want to puke. 'Scuse me......

You're welcome! :D :D

but FWIW, the un-cooked fried gluten is a lot better than the black jelly beans. If I were held up at gunpoint, I'd eat straight gluten rather than those black abominations. :p

Eeww...licorice!
I don't care for it, but apparently that's because I've only ever had american licorice. I know a girl from Holland who swears up-and-down that REAL licorice comes from Holland and I'd love it if I tried it.
I doubt I'd like it in jelly bean form, either.

Dutch licorice is good, but Italian is better.

I agree wholeheartedly! Some of the Dutch licorice is salted! Definitely not my taste. But even the best of the Dutch non-salted licorice can't compete with Italian licorice (the best I've had was in Treviso). For licorice with a kick, try the French liquor Pastis.

Ugh no, licorice. Also disliked are blue and orange.

My favorites are the orange ones and the green ones. None of the other colors compare. I don't *like* the black ones, but I don't dislike them either.

And I'll take the generic beans over Jelly Belly every day of the week.

mm I LOVE black jelly beans, and black licorice... so good. I've gotten entire bags of black jelly belly's before, they're so yummy. Now I want to go and buy a bunch of jelly belly's... I bet they're cheap now, day after easter and all that.
