I was all set to get one and then I compared my iPad 3 screen side by side to my Mom's iPad 2 and am worried it might be a difficult adjustment to make, even though the screen on the mini is still better than the iPad 2 screen.

I also have a friend who has a non retina iPod touch and I sort of cringed when I saw that in comparison to the retina screen on my iPhone 5 and iPad 3.

Non Retina screen is too big of a step back.

Especially for an E-reader sized tablet.

The best thing about Retina is the Crystal Clear Text.

The way I see it is the 1st gen mini is a great iPad for kids.

But iam holding out for Retina Display on it or a new iPad 5 in the lighter thinner form factor.

I just don't like the hassle...a simple glance at an Apple Store should help me decide.

I really like to buy it, really! But the non-Retina display is holding me back. :(

If there is one return policy in gadget land that can described as hassle free its Apple's...

But to each his own. If you can wait, then by all means. I have not been endowed with such patience and self-control...

I bought an iPad mini and an iPad 4. I will be returning whichever one I dont like.

I pre-ordered, but before I open it I will check out the product in an Applestore first.

If I don't like what I see (eg. can't stand the screen), I will be returning the product unopened. (don't want to abuse their generosity with the returns).

Don't they have to open the box anyway?
To make sure is not a box of rocks

I was willing to forgive the lack of retina if they added a direct-sunlight feature, but now I'll just wait for the iPad mini 2

The iPad 4 is what I'm interested in, esp. the twice as fast wi-fi

I just can't comprehend it. Apple holds out on simple features like retina and GPS. KNOWING they will release the same damn thing next year with those feature.

They do it on purpose.

Yeah, right. Apple holds back technology so that its devices don't have as large advantage as they can have against its competitors. In this case, the lack of retina screen can't possibly have anything to do with battery size in a mini not being able to push all those pixels for a long enough period of time.

Talk to me next year when the mini has retina display.

:)

Some one is in denial.

A lot happens in a year in the tech world in terms of cost and hardware optimizations. Given where things stand now, it would have required major comprises in cost or power efficiency to put a retina display in the iPad mini.
