Curious to know how many of you already have noticeable scratches on their screens, micro or deeper. So far so good on mine.

I have a few major scratches. At this point, its so deep its actually causing a rainbow effect on my screen. Happened due to a 3-foot drop onto rough stone surfaces. Applecare+ for me

I have a few tiny ones one week in. And one that a little deep but not on the screen more on the bezel. Ceramic coating is BS 😂

I had a feeling that if I didn't get a screen protector immediately, that my phone would become a victim of those tiny scratches.
In short, I don't have any scratches because I put a screen protector on before walking out of the store. I don't trust these displays to hold up well to scratches.
Kinda sad you never got to touch the screen of your phone!

I did the same. Armorshield from Best Buy and I actually like it. It’s as resistant to prints and smudges as any protector I’ve ever used and the applicator is handy and easy to use.

Ceramic coating has nothing to do with scratches, it’s designed to make the glass more shatter resistant. In turn, this can make scratches a little more prevalent.
Personally, I have none yet
I know I was kinda joking about the ceramic shield thing cause I know people who think the ceramic shield is supposed to make the glass super strong and resistant to scratches.

Although I do have the scratches I mentioned.

Normally I don't use a protector and only wind up with the faint hairline scratches that you would expect to happen. This time I went for a screen protector. Took the paper cover off the screen and went right into the install tray so I never used the phone without the protector on it.

We get busy and distracted in our daily lives that something like the way we handle our phones goes unnoticed. I’m sure each one of you who didn’t have scratches out the box got those scratches by being careless in what rubbed up against the display or something you put on top of it. Maybe something in your pockets or purses. Something. Then you want to tell me the scratches magically got there, defying the laws of physics, with no fault of your own. Not buying it

Not necessarily being careless. Your phone can get micro scratches from a lot of things. Could be from rubbing on the fabric on the inside of your pocket. Could be multiple things. I’ve babied my phone since I got it last week but somehow got micro scratches and one pretty noticeable scratch.

Before I even activated it I had an otterbox, a screen protector, and a camera protector. I did notice a small very minor scratch on the side of my 12 Pro, but it works perfect and the screen is great so I’m going to ride with it. I’m really not as OCD as all the protection would make you think. I work in a car factory and use my phone throughout the day and just like the peace of mind the protection provides. The new Otterbox Symmetry cases are great.

Careless is the wrong word I think. It’s pretty easy to scratch a phone just by normal daily use in the environment the phone is designed to be in. Placing it down on a hard surface, brushing that rivet on a jeans pocket, a drop off the arm of a sofa. You shouldn’t have to walk around with these things in a silk pouch worrying about every instance that might damage the phone. I’ve learned that iPhones these days are fragile and don’t stand up too well if they don’t get put in a case with a screen protector. When I think my phone experiences anything from children, a kitchen worktop, office desk to a surface in a welding bay, I wouldn’t be taking any chances and protecting it.

Tests show scratches are not more prevalent. If anything, tests show Ceramic Shield to show slightly lighter scratching than previous iPhones.

Never had this screen scratch issue with iPhone X. The 12s seem more prone to screen scratching.

I’ve had 2 iPhone 12 Pros as the speaker went out on the first one within the return period.

My first iPhone 12 Pro scratched every single day I had it, and I’m not exaggerating. I don’t think and plastic phone I’ve ever had scratches so easily. It almost felt like a joke.

My replacement iPhone 12 Pro I’ve had nearly 3 months and I can’t find a single scratch on it even under the harsh lights we have in detail at the automotive place I work at.

I still believe some phones from the the first batch of iPhone 12 models had some defective glass. There’s just no way I was accidentally abusing that phone.

I said it earlier in the thread but this problem is totally removed by applying a tempered glass screen protector. I see absolutely no legitimate reason why anybody would not use one in all honesty. I can’t see any advantage to not using one .
