who all bought there iPhone X without AppleCare or carrier insurance? I bought 2 X’s waiting on them to come in the mail. Trying to decide if I made a good discision of not getting AppleCare. I will put it in a case tho.

Haven't purchased (or needed) insurance for any phone I've had yet. I might need it someday, but so far I've saved enough to repair the phone several times over if I become clumsy.

In general, insurance for consumer goods is a large money maker for the seller and I never purchase it. My personal policy is to use insurance as a hedge against a devastating event rather than something that would be an inconvenience to replace. (homeowner's insurance, vehicle liability insurance, term life)

Some use it for peace of mind. Everyone has their comfort zone.

Never have purchased Apple care on any of their products but I did get 3rd party insurance as I’m not using the phone in a case so wanted some protection if I dropped it

Ironically, I never ever buy insurance or extended warranty on anything I buy. Generally the manufacturers warranty is good enough and I can afford repairs after that. However for the first time ever I purchased AppleCare for my X. Thinking that this was an expensive item literally made of glass that I plan on carrying around in my pocket every day for a very long time, and I purchased first manufacture run on launch day. A bit of coverage can’t hurt.

I’ve been buying iPhones since the 4. Never have bought Apple Care. I’ve only gotten insurance from carriers if they required it at signing and then cancelled it when it was no longer required. The only time it would’ve benefited me was when I jogged in the rain with my iPhone 6+. It was a dumb move and ruined the phone. I ended up upgrading to the 6S+ and had to pay the remaining balance on the 6+ which was $212 I think. I still have it hoping it will magically work one day 😉

A lot of credit card holders are not aware that they have protection with their devices. Not all of them provide support, but yours does, which is a nice benefit.
Besides this, I never purchase any extended warranty for any electric appliances or electronic gadgets.

They're disproportionately high premium insurance, basically free money for the manufacturer or the underwriter.

In the last year how many times have you dropped your phone? I never buy but if you are the type that drops often . . . .

I second. I also have never purchased any insurance or apple care + for my phone but for iPhone X I bought one. iPhone X is very fragile to break due the glass material on the back and front, which is very expensive to repair if they are broken. The most expensive phone or any items need all protections from expensive repair risks unless the owner does not mind paying much for the repair.

I never buy insurances, insurances makes money for the company so obviously it has negative expected return for you. It’s actually akin to buying lotteries. In the long run, you will pay more in insurance than you can be if it from it.

It is more like they make money from the collective (and the investments they make from premiums) as most people who buy will never use it. But some people WILL be able to receive insurance “payouts”, that exceed their premium(s) be it for electronics, their house, a disability, etc. I’d say a lot more people in life end up receiving insurance proceeds than lottery wins 😉
[doublepost=1511017724][/doublepost]I don’t normally buy “extended warranties” for any tech, including my Apple devices, but for my phones I do.

This is not just due to the accidental coverage which it seems most people think of, but the extended support, tendency to do immediate or at least prompt replacement, and that on occasion they may even work with you after Apple Care + expires. I keep my phones for a while and do not upgrade every year, so that is all a plus to me.

I ask a lot of my phone and take it everywhere: running, hiking, on dive boats, take it in and out of my pocket or bag frequently for work or personal use, and so on. I am careful but stuff happens, and a heavily used phone can have issues one day after the regular warranty expires.

I haven't bought insurance, though I'm still on the fence with AC+. I'd probably be more apt to get it, had they kept the price the same, but at 200 dollars its a little too much.

I didn't buy it on a credit card, so I'm out of luck in that aspect as well.

I've never purchased insurance on a phone, but thinking about getting SquareTrade for the X since it's so fragile and I don't want to use a big case. SquareTrade's 3 year policy is almost half the price of AC+ at $55/year.

I checked my credit card and it only offers protection for the first 4 month. It does extend the manufacturers warranty for 2 years, but I'm more worried about accidents.

I never bought AppleCare or any insurance from 3rd party for any iPhone since my 10 years of iPhone usage. No screen protector either, but case yes. The answer also applies to iPhone X

It makes no difference, they all have to do with the same concept of expected returns.

Oh well, I guess you are lucky then. I had certainly had to make claims on disability insurance, car insurance, and house insurance and neither were because of things “I” did or didn’t do. One was bad genetic luck, another due to another driver (hit and run), and another due to theft. My premiums were well worth the peace of mind, and ultimately the insurance proceeds I claimed. I also have to have and maintain certain insurance as part of my career, and my other side business. I suppose I see the benefits of it a lot more in my line of work and personal experiences.

Luck does not affect the math and logic of expected returns.

If I had dropped my iPhone and had to pay to get it repairs, I still wouldn't buy insurance. It has zero bearing on the decision.

What does have bearing is how often I do it. if I on average crack my phone very often then it would make it worthwhile.

I got Apple care plus for my iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

They’re too expensive to fix.

I didn't buy insurance, though I think I have some time to do so if I change my mind. Just picked up the phone today.
