So all the new iphones seem to be getting wireless charging but it seems to be a slower version of what the likes of samsung etc are using for whatever reason. I don't know about scale but the leaked pictures of the assembly for it make the components required for it look quite large which must take up quite a bit of room that could be dedicated to something more useful for power management... the battery.

So the question is, how many of you actually want wireless charging vs the rest of us who either couldn't care less or simply will never use it. I assume that we will be able to use cheap third party wireless chargers but I wouldn't put it past apple to make that a bad idea.

I didn't care about wireless charging until I got a phone with it (S8) but I've found it incredibly useful.

I've got a wireless charging stand on my bedside table and one on my desk and all I do is sit the phone it to charge - no messing about with wires or wearing sockets out constantly plugging and unplugging power.
Also, it's incredibly convenient to just top my phone's charge up when I'm sat at my desk: If I want to use my phone I just pick it up and when I've finished with it, I just set it down again

Personally, having used it for the last 5 months or so, I would be reluctant to buy a phone that doesn't have it now

I'm guessing the charging plate will NOT come in the box?

Then it's not tops on my list.

I've already got charging cables in all the usual areas of my life. And in my travel bags too.

The only thing I'd be interested in is some sort of wireless car-charging solution. It would be nice to just drop my phone on it and not have to mess with wires in the car (I'm already using Bluetooth for audio)

Having had it on my Nexus 4 back in the day - it was pretty cool and nice to not have to fiddle with the plug... though that is admittedly not a big issue. However, it's just as nice on the Apple Watch, and if the phone ends up with something like that I would not mind at all... as for the speed - seems like it would be between the time it takes with the charger they ship with and with an iPad charger. That doesn't seem too terrible in my estimation.

Having had it with previous (Nokia Lumia) phones, it can be relatively useful to just put the phone down on the pad. I can't say I ever really noticed the difference in charging speed. Honestly don't miss it all that much though, and if :apple: decide to use a proprietary charger, I doubt I'll end up using it anyway! If they decide to use Qi standard, then I still have a couple of Nokia chargers hanging about that were included with previous phones, so could just start using them again which would be quite convenient.

I can hear the complaints about it be so s l o w now.

Actually, it is rumored to be a slower charging process rate. Complaints will naturally Surface about technology not meeting someone else's expectations, especially this is the first time we will be seeing this technology with Apple. But most will still use lighting over wireless because they can use their device continuously as they charge and the wireless charging will be an additional fee on top of the already expensive iPhone as it is.

I don't think I'll be using it.

If a wireless charging pad isn't included with the phone, then I definitely can't see myself paying extra for it.

I'd find it more useful in the car than home, but it'd need to fit in the snug phone compartment within my car & then wirelessly connect to Carplay, which isn't supported, so I guess I have little to no use for this particular iteration of wireless charging.

Once it's here you will use it and like it.

I had hoped the charging pad would be like Samsung one where it can be used as stand. Chances are i would use it at night or in the office when my phone would be laying down flat anyway.

Just nice not to worry about cables and damaging your phone at night.

I see the convenience with wireless charging and this accessory will be sold out in minutes with Apple's release. But it still requires direct placement on a dock or mat, some prefer to use their iPhone while charging, and I still use my iPad charger for my iPhone, which essentially charges my iPhone at a faster rate as it is.

Apple will use a slower charging profile at 7.5 watts, which 9to5Mac notes will only be able to power up the phones at about half the speed of the most recent Qi 1.2 standard of 15 watts. The report, which cites an unnamed source, also claims that only new charging pads built specifically for Apple products will be compatible with the iPhones.

Two negative points for me:

First: I am not interested if it's not Qi wireless charging.

Second: This will be sold seperately which means i have to pay extra for an accessory which my previous iPhones will not support.

How much space does the wireless charging component take up/how large is it? It looks quite big in the pictures but I haven't seen anything for scale.

Poll needed a 'Not sure' option as the 2 extreme views currently there, whilst appealing to the stubborn internet user who loves their opinion & won't consider any other, need to be accompanied/balanced by an undecided one.

It'll also reflect the uncertainty & relunctance of people committing to this emerging tech.

How is it a negative or disadvantage for your older iPhone models if wireless technology didn't exist to begin with from Apple? Its new technology introduced from Apple. It's not like you have intentions of purchasing it anyways Based off your post because of the additional cost.

End of the day it's better to have the option there to use it than not at all.

I'd care about it when I'll be able to find charging pads at office, in hotels, on the train and on cars.
I'm not going to buy a charging pad for now, since it wouldn't provide any convenience to me. I couldn't use it while charging, so it would be worse than having a cable.
However I'm happy to have it as an alternative, since I could be using it sooner or later
