Hey, I found a feature in Itunes 8 that I had suggested to Apple in the past. It now apparently lets you change the download and auto-delete settings for each individual podcast, so you can set it to keep a different number of episodes for each one.

That one one thing that used to bug me. For instance, I'd want to keep just 1 episode of a news update, but several episodes for a talk show. There was no way to do that automatically.

And if you had a problem with updating to iTunes 8.0, just download it from apple.com, I had a problem saying I needed to update to at least iTunes 7.7.1 for 2.1 firmware and I already had 7.7.1. I just paid apple.com a visit, type in my email and downloaded 8.0.
Where on earth would people download it from if not from Apple.com?

If you don't like the new features, then don't use them. It's not going to save a crucial amount of hard drive space if you trim even 50% of the 60mb.
Not everyone that talks of it being bloatware are talking about the pure size of it. I, for one, have an 11 MB Safari, but I still consider it bloated. I could use the terms "useless feature creep", and "unfocused app" instead, if that makes it easier to swallow.

Personally, I love the new iTunes 8.0, although I don't use Grid view, since I'm used to alpha order in Cover Flow, but that's just me. Some people love browsing music by album, some may not. It's personal preference. Genius saves time when creating playlists, I don't have much music, 250+ songs, but I still get great results. Bottom line is, this is FREE software. You can choose to add songs and videos to your iPod manually.
There are other reasons for people not liking Genius than "it doesn't save me enough time". As for your "it's FREE software, you choose to add songs and videos manually": That's pure nonsense. How do you put songs on your iPod without iTunes? It's not a drag and drop-player. Hell, they even nixed Disk Mode on the Touch and iPhone.

And for the BSOD windows vista users, blame MS. I love Vista for it's eye candy, but not for the way it works and the OS as a whole. XP Pro imho, is the best windows-based OS to date. Since the OS crashed, because an app was running, then it's the OS' fault. If app crashed but the OS still runs fine with no BSODs, then it's the app's fault. The OS faltered, not the app itself. Probably just a compatibility issue within drivers. And serves you vista fans right for using vista in the first place. vista is NOT an OS where you can have fun on the computer while doing work at the same time. that's a mac. Vista, it's a constant, "am i up to date with the latest service packs and updates" kind of game, a game that never ends.

Also, some dude complained iWork is bloated. That may be true for the first version, but every time Apple released new versions of software and the OS, it's dramatically smaller than previous. And Office 04 is NOT 400mb. I have it on CD, and when it installs, it's about 2GB of my hard disk space. Office 08 is about the same. iWork on the other hand is 283.7mb for Keynote, 136mb for Numbers and 266.8mb for Pages. Not the 1.9+ gb that dude was talking about. 280+260+140 is approx 680 or so.
Your post just officially became one huge apologetic post.

Take the languages our of Safari:
Safari 4: 10.3MB
Firefox 3: 45.9MB
Yup. My Safari, which includes two languages (english and danish) is 11MB.

I really like iTunes 8.0 I love the grid view, I like to have as many albums of an artist I can so when going through cover flow and each artist has 3+ albums (not all of them but a lot do) it really saves space and time finding the artist I want in grid view, and I think it looks great + Genius works fantastically and Its on my iphone now so happy:D.

iTunes question

I have a question on iTunes 8. In the grid view when I choose albums when the album is by multiple artists I see a separate panel for each artist. For instance I have 24 panels of the same album, one for each artist that has a song on the album. I don't want that, I just want the album listed then I can go under the album and look at what's on it. If I wanted artists, I would choose the artist view. I've played with the "view" menu but can't get it to do what I want. Anyone else have that issue or figured out a way to display by just albums?

How about keeping this on-topic for iTunes 8? I'm going to suggest to the mods that they split off the last 40 or so posts.

This makes it illegal to download or purchase anything from outside the U.S. even when just on vacation.

It means if you live in the US you can only buy in the US. :(

I thought there had always been something in there about how it was only available in certain areas and they could take action to stop you. I seem to recall panicking at the point I got my first US gift card while living in the UK.

I can reassure you that I've tried downloading from the US site while in the UK with iTunes 8 and it still seems to work.

OK I NOW HATE iTunes 8 IT HAS DELETED ALL MY VIDEO FILES:mad::mad::mad::mad:, I have sent an email to Apple asking for help so hopefully they will take pity seeing as it was $150 worth of video files deleted:mad::mad::mad:

How about clarifying what exactly happened? And $150 worth of videos? If purchased on the iTunes Store, go download them again. If not DRM content, then why don't you have a backup?

Go to Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/TV Shows or /Movies.

They might be in there.

No idea they just went missing.

And $150 worth of videos?
Yes $150

If purchased on the iTunes Store, go download them again.
You have to rebuy them.

If not DRM content, then why don't you have a backup?
I did.

Go to Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/TV Shows or /Movies.
They might be in there.
Nothing there.

so you're saying iTunes 8 deleted videos from your hard drive? i find that hard to believe.

Only thing I can put it down to as I haven't touched them and no else is on my Mac, Is there a way to rescue them without asking Apple?

Yeah, I checked and you're correct. I guess I just didn't realize it until I had to reaccept the terms. Even though they don't seem to be enforcing it, it is still a crazy clause. But oh well, hope it keeps working.

They have kindly let me redownload the videos but I do not trust iTunes 8 anymore:( and I will back up to 3 different types of media (DVD, Blu-Ray & External HDD), All is good with Apple now.

You did back them up?

Yes but I can't find them so it might not of been iTunes but something related as it deleted only iTunes bought ones, I sent and received an email saying I can redownload them and they even gave me a guide to backing up which I guess I need:eek:.

I learned to do a straight back up, to a small hard drive, and a time machine back up to a bigger drive. I had to re-buy several TV shows, and I wasn't happy. I had backed up some, but not all when I removed some for space sake on the internal drive. :(

I like iTunes a lot, but I am not a fan of the vista-like black bars they added in the list view.

The new visualizer is cool.
iPhone syncing is much better.
Why are they still using the carbon api? WHY? They have had years to switch to cocoa now.
Genius is a nice feature, but I probably wont use it that much.
Over all, a good upgrade. Maybe we will get cocoa in 9.0 with snow leopard.

So it's bloated. Is there an alternative smaller? If there is, go use that. No ones forcing you to use "bloatware", which is what ur head is made of. If you don't like safari, go download the older IE, Firefox, or the now-dead Netscape, or Camino, OminiWeb etc.
So your apologetic fanboy-retort is to use some older bloatware, dead browser or use a paid-for browser?
Okay, I do use Omniweb, but that doesn't mean I can't call iTunes and Safari bloatware.

So? If you don't want Genius, disable it. Or downgrade to iTunes. but DO NOT push ur whining to other people saying it's useless and stupid.
I never called iTunes or Safari "stupid", nor did I say it was "useless". Stop with the fanboyish strawman argumentation. I called iTunes a vehicle pushing their iTunes Store to such a degree that I'm reminded of pop-ups and malware. And I called iTunes bloatware and feature creeped.
Who are you to tell me that I cannot complain about bloatware and "features" akin to adware?

I'd like to see a dumb**** like yourself program something like that.
Just because I can't build a car, doesn't mean I can't spot an inefficient and crappy build one. I really like that in order to feel good in your fanboyism you have to resort calling me "dumb****" and the like. The more you do that, the more the monicker "fanboy", with all the connotations of ignorance, seems to fit.

It is free software and if you don't want to use itunes, then dont. go buy a zune. or a sandisk sansa. or a creative zen. and yes, ppl in the mac forums do know what a zen, sansa is.
Actually, one can use iTunes without using an iPod. You see, it's not just an iPod sync-tool – it's a media player as well.
It's funny. Once again, you prove how little you know, and the idea that the answer to everything is "go use something else" really shows your standpoint – although quite a different one than you think and hope.

Not all of us are ignorant to just an iPod. YOU knew the requirements of the product. It's your choice to buy it.
But you have SHOWN yourself to be ignorant. Just because you know a few other players' name, doesn't make you much less ignorant.

YOUR own post shows how stupid and ignorant you are. Enough said.
LOL, so your idea of argumentation is to make a completely unfounded claim and then go "enough said"? Haha, what a joke

Who gave you the authority to make my post "officially" anything?
Well, I'm not an authority, but posting in a public forum, you yourself made it officially apologetic, as there we're nothing but ignorant statements defending Apple and shooting blame everyelse but on Apple. I merely described it.

So next time you say something, and it's not true but just your own whining, shut up and keep it to urself.
Reminds me of ignorant statements like "if you have to fight in here go outside" ...

Besides that part of your ridiculous statement, I think you should take your own advice and think things through before mouthing off as if your fanboyish opinions were facts.

Ever since I upgraded my syncing with my Apple TV has slowed down immensely. Nowadays it freezes up my iTunes completely so I can't click on anything or even cancel the sync if I so desire. I hope this is something they fix soon. Drives me crazy that if it even starts to sync I end up stuck waiting for five minutes or so. Anyone else have this problem?

Not had any issues with iTunes 8 and my Apple TV syncing. I've synced quite a few TV Shows since the iTunes 8 release, including streaming one because I wanted to watch it right away rather than waiting for it to finish syncing.

Apple TV is overdue an update to fix the lagging issues with the remote and a few other problems others are having.

Hmm. Mine syncs fine, it just tends to freeze up iTunes in the process. The task itself always completes though without crashing. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who sees a lag with the Remote app though. Every time I try to open it to pause or skip around, my video immediately starts lagging. Hope this gets fixed too. Whether it's an update to the app or to Apple TV I'm not sure, though I'd love to see an ATV update that shows whether movies are watched or new just like iTunes 8 does now.

I suspect it's a clause imposed on Apple by the content providers (i.e. studios) - they like to keep their territories distinct
