Is anyone else frozen with indecision on which iPhone to get? It used to be so easy. A new iPhone would come out and you'd pick a storage size. Now with 3 'flagship' lines, (8, Plus, X), the decision is so hard:

I want to be able to use the phone comfortably in one hand.

Get the 8!

But the portrait mode is so cool!

Okay, go for the Plus!

But the Plus is too big.

Okay, go for the X! Not as wide as the Plus but has dual cameras.

BTW, I've outgrown my current 64GB phone.

Okay, are you ready to spend $1149?

I'm used to paying $749....

Oh. Well I should I also mention that AppleCare+ on the X is $199.

All right, I guess I'll go back to looking at the 8...

But the 8 isn't the cool and all your friends and family will look down upon you.

****.

I can imagine the confusion, I myself want the X but I am not paying €1150 for it, I think even the 8 price is already to high, last year t was more expensive IIRC and now again €50 more.
I bought the 6S last year, should stay with it, it's a good phone.

Yup, I'm completely undecided... Thankfully it's not a money decision for me as I saved expecting the highest price.
I'm coming from a 7 Plus though... I really want the X and for all the arguments I think it looks great and don't mind being considered a guinea pig with regard to the newness of the UI etc.
The two elements that do concern me is the (usable) screen size reduction (coming from a Plus) and the battery life (also being used to the Plus). I'm probably concerning myself more as I've been deliberately playing more with my old iPhone 6 (4.7) and finding it a little small... (going back to the Plus feels like heaven!) I'm curious as to how the X will handle games like Simpsons Tapped Out as that uses the extremes of three out of the four corners for clickable buttons (awkward on a rounded screen...)

Strongly considering going 8 Plus and looking forward to a Plus Sized OLED Notch-fest next year... #ImLost

Indeed the 8 is too much of a 7 clone and I could get a 128GB 7 for £50 less than a 64GB 8, the dual cameras on the plus would be nice but that's too big! I really like OLED screens but the X is too expensive!!

The jump up to 256GB is taking the pee too, £150 for something that probably costs Apple about £30 or less !!

Rather than thinking a or portrait mode or specific features. Try to think about the actual features you’ll use over time.

Last year I like portrait mode in the 7 Plus. Fast forward and I’ve taken like 26 portraits to date.

I have a 7 Plus I'm happy with so I can easily wait till next year and see how things have all panned out then.

I waited for the X a full year. Like literally a full year. I'm using a S6 Edge currently (2015). It requires me to charge the phone at least twice in the day and if I use location services then thrice. Compounding the issue is a keyboard that sometimes types it's own words and sometimes refuses to type anything. The last issue is that it suddenly decides to copy something at the touch of the screen and then hangs. I could go on.. but you guys get the drift. The point is I still don't feel cheated. For it's price, it served me well and served me long. I was sold on the X before the keynote. I knew what it was going to look like and perhaps everything else as well. I just didn't want a white front.

After release, things are a bit different. The fact that I'm being forced to buy 256 and there's no 128 option is making me angry. The fast charger coming separately has me fuming.

I'm not one of those who has a favourite (Samsung/Apple) or (iOS/Android), in fact, if I am pressed, I'll choose Apple and iOS, but there is a difference between charging a premium and being cheap. I also hate it when companies/brands insult the intelligence of a consumer and this screams of it.

Yes, I've got no clue!

I have a launch day iPhone 6, was decided on the iPhone X until the European pricing was announced.

While money is not really an issue, I do have a really hard time justifying the X (saving for my first home). So now I was thinking of getting the 8 Plus instead.

Went to look at a 7 Plus yesterday, it's simply HUGE. Can't see myself carrying it in my pockets when running, working out, mountain biking et.c.

Maybe a regular 8 then? However, that would look exactly the same as my 3 year old iPhone 6 when put in a case. Nothing new here.

..... I can go on forever!

Original 6 Plus owner here. Skipped last year for this year's X announcement.

Okay it's expensive, but with taxes and AppleCare+, the 6 Plus was $1049.

So price doesn't matter. But that notch!! Ugh that notch. Ughhh.

Whatever, newest spec is newest spec. I'm tired of my slow touch ID, lack of 3D touch, and apps resetting my typed out paragraph after switching apps.

But that notch! And the chrome trim actually seems cheap like the 3Gs.

Well, maybe next year it'll be brushed aluminum? And maybe FaceID will be gen 2? Maybe all the kinks will be worked out like 6s vs the 6. I do not want to be a guinea pig for another first gen Apple product.

So I'm going to use the 6 Plus for the 4th year??

Nah, just get a refurbished 6s and wait out a year. But that's $429, half of the price to use a year?

Or just get a X and be done with it. Maybe I'll get on the iPhone Upgrade Program, get the X, and depending on how Xs is, keep X or upgrade.

I felt the same as you OP. I have a regular 128GB 7. I mainly wanted the X for the relatively similar size along with all features of the Plus models plus OLED screen and better rear cameras, but it's lack of Touch ID/Home Button, and unknowns like UI, FaceID have me going for an 8 Plus 256GB. The Plus will be an upgrade on battery, screen resolution and size and rear camera. I do worry about the size of the whole device but willing to try it at least. I did try a 7 Plus in store a few days ago and it wasnt horrible to handle but putting up with it for daily use may differ my opinion.

What do you hope to upgrade from your 6? What's lacking?

But what color?! I can't decide lol.

Well, I need a new phone as this one is getting painfully slow.

Secondly, ideally, I would like a larger display in a similar size form factor. Hence why the X is so tempting.

However, this comes at a price I might not be willing to pay. So I'm debating whether I should settle with the smaller form factor and same size I have today, or jump at the larger display and simply suffer from the large size phone.

Another 7 128GB owner here. I'm sort of erring towards checking out the X on pre-order day to reserve one for IUP. If that's a no go (i.e. There's a wait of many weeks) then I THINK I'll just sit it out this year.

I don't mind being a beta tester for the new phone, as being on IUP I'll have Apple Care & likely upgrade again next year. Certainly the FaceID doesn't bother me, nor the design. If I can't get the X quickly though, an upgrade next year will become more expensive if it's launched in Sept as I'll have to pay off the remaining monthly payments up to 11 months.

While the 8 IS an upgrade (wireless charging, TrueTone etc), I only just exceed 64GB on my 7 so a 256GB will be overkill, but clearing off 8GB or so to make a 64GB viable will still risk me bumping up against the limit all the time.

If I don't get either phone, I'll save £160 compared to upgrading to the 8 and at least £500 compared to the X. I might just get the AW3 instead to satisfy the urge to buy some new tech. I'll own the 7 outright when it comes to Sept next year & so might also still get £100+ on trade in value.

I Think that's a large part of it. There are so many features and different tools within the iPhone, I certainly don't utilize all of them at my disposal. But the ones I do use, are suitable for me. But the next iPhone user may use more or less of one specific feature the iPhone offers. But that's how packed full of technology these iPhones are today.

Coming from a 6+ I think I've settled on getting a stop-gap 6s+ until this time next year when I'll decide whether to go for an oled if it's a tad less expensive/ I like the look of the tech, or maybe a price-cut 8+. I would've gone 7+ but it's still kinda expensive at £770 for something I'll only keep a year.

I love being on the cutting edge of tech, but I like my 7 plus, so I ordered the 8 plus. I ordered Space Gray, 256, but now thinking I may go Silver 64. I don't have many apps and use cloud storage. Unlike 95% of the world, I don't like the non-bezel phones. Just not for me. But.......I love tech, so not trying the X is difficult.
