I'm still deciding what phone to purchase as my iOS alternative to my DTEK60.

But it won't be the 8 or the X. Instead it will be a slightly used and mint 6S or 7.

I'm going to wait until next week or the end of the month as new 8 or 8+ are delivered or X models are ordered. Craigslist, Kijiji and eBay will be flooded as people try to unload their current phones. And I, along with my cash-in-hand, will lowball given the increased supply and Apple lowering the new retail price on these models.

To me and for what I use a smartphone, the changes between the 6S, 7, 8, and X are marginal, with the exception of the swipe gestures on the X.

Same here. iP6 since day one. Going for 4 years now. Works still fab. Was going to replace it with the X but the fact that they will release a larger screen next year...I will wait one more year. I really like the screen of the Plus models, and was hoping in a similar screen on the X. Instead it is almost as narrow as my 6...Quite disappointed. I bought an 6 but always wanted a Plus so I am NOT going to do the same mistake again. And the battery better be bigger too.

If screen size is a major factor in your selection, here's the difference between the X and the 8 Plus. The X screen is over the 8 Plus.

Coming from a 6+ I think I've settled on getting a stop-gap 6s+ until this time next year when I'll decide whether to go for an oled if it's a tad less expensive/ I like the look of the tech, or maybe a price-cut 8+. I would've gone 7+ but it's still kinda expensive at £770 for something I'll only keep a year.

Where you thinking of getting the 6s+? Apple? eBay? Friends?

Yes, I've got no clue!

I have a launch day iPhone 6, was decided on the iPhone X until the European pricing was announced.

While money is not really an issue, I do have a really hard time justifying the X (saving for my first home). So now I was thinking of getting the 8 Plus instead.

Went to look at a 7 Plus yesterday, it's simply HUGE. Can't see myself carrying it in my pockets when running, working out, mountain biking et.c.

Maybe a regular 8 then? However, that would look exactly the same as my 3 year old iPhone 6 when put in a case. Nothing new here.

..... I can go on forever!

This post made me LOL, not because it was trying to be funny, but because I relate to it so damn much. The same thoughts are spinning through my head.

I can't decide.

Currently have iPhone 6s 64gb

Option #1:
Replace battery and keep 6s until May when paid off.

Option #2:
Buy 7+ 128gb

Option #3:
Buy 8

Thinking option 3. Excited for 4k 60fps and 1080 front facing. Do a lot of video work.

I felt the same as you OP. I have a regular 128GB 7. I mainly wanted the X for the relatively similar size along with all features of the Plus models plus OLED screen and better rear cameras, but it's lack of Touch ID/Home Button, and unknowns like UI, FaceID have me going for an 8 Plus 256GB. The Plus will be an upgrade on battery, screen resolution and size and rear camera. I do worry about the size of the whole device but willing to try it at least. I did try a 7 Plus in store a few days ago and it wasnt horrible to handle but putting up with it for daily use may differ my opinion.

just an FYI. The 8+ weighs more than the 7+

I'm holding off.

The iPhone 8 is very minor update to the 7, nothing major imo, and certainly not worth spending 700 dollars.
The iPhone X, Apple finally caught up with Android makers with full screen displays, face recognition, wireless charging, AMOLED screens, but given the outrageous price of 1,000. I'm holding off.

I'll see if apple rolls out an update to SE this spring, and if not, I'll hold onto my current iPhone for another year.

It's always cheaper to keep the one you already have even if it requires a
fix like a new battery or screen.

But this is the wrong forum if you're looking to keep the one you have. I still have my favorite iPhone, the 4s, but I rarely use it anymore.

Curious to know if the people in this thread ever figured what they wanted to do.

After getting very close to getting the 8 Plus, I decided I didn’t NEED a new iPhone and would stick with my 6s for another year.

Now that the X is out and the reviews are positive, I’m back at drooling at the X again, trying to convince myself that the price is fine haha.

iPhone X is the best smartphone in the world right now. You only have to ask yourself do I want the best, or do I cheap out and buy one of the lesser models? It's that simple.

Not everyone thinks iPhone X is the best or believe iOS is the best platform.

What is best to some isn't the best for others. It's like beauty. It's subjective. I don't find iPhone X that beautiful but others who bought it will think so.

You are just caught in this endless loop called planned obsolescence believing the latest is always the greatest when most people won't even utilize more than 20% of its potential. It's mostly doing the same thing over and over like what they did on their previous phone.

and we pay top dollar for that. 🙂

Is anyone else frozen with indecision on which iPhone to get? It used to be so easy. A new iPhone would come out and you'd pick a storage size. Now with 3 'flagship' lines, (8, Plus, X), the decision is so hard:

I want to be able to use the phone comfortably in one hand.

Get the 8!

But the portrait mode is so cool!

Okay, go for the Plus!

But the Plus is too big.

Okay, go for the X! Not as wide as the Plus but has dual cameras.

BTW, I've outgrown my current 64GB phone.

Okay, are you ready to spend $1149?

I'm used to paying $749....

Oh. Well I should I also mention that AppleCare+ on the X is $199.

All right, I guess I'll go back to looking at the 8...

But the 8 isn't the cool and all your friends and family will look down upon you.

****.
That's EXACTLY same internal dialogue I had when trying to figure out which phone to get.

Difference is I made a decision that best fits my need and committed to it and don't give a damn what other people think.

Same here - finally I replaced my iPhone 6‘s battery and it works again like new. Too sad I made the mistake to upgrade to iOS 11, which somehow slowed it down.

X-mas is coming and I‘m thinking of handing my 6 over to my daughter to get a new 8 Plus. The X didn‘t convince me and I find it hard to justify the European price.

I stayed up to 3am, pre-ordered the 256gb X, got a delivery date of nov 17 week. Launch day came and went and the more I thought about it, the more I realized how stupid it is to spend 1700cdn for a phone.

Not an affordability issue for me, more of a "how much more value is it adding over my existing 6s??". . I cancelled and am now holding onto my 6s for at least another year. taking that 1700 and going on an epic snowboard trip instead!

It's pretty simple. If you value the newest tech, best screen, new design, Face ID, and gestures, grab an X. If you still need to hold onto the home button, dated design, landscape, but still great performance/camera, then grab an 8 Plus. I'd strongly consider a 7 Plus over an 8 Plus though if you don't care about wireless charging though.

I think I'm going to keep my 7+ 128GB another year. I could get the 8+ 64gig but while my monthly pmt would drop slightly, I'm getting less storage for almost the same phone. The X is too expensive and I'm not in the mood to beta test a product. I will likely only upgrade if I come across a fire sale like VZ did for the 7+ a month ago.

We'll see next year.
