I have the best idea ever! How do you keep the iPhone from correcting "lol" to "LOL"? Stop saying "lol". Say "haha" or "that's funny" like people who made it out of elementary school. Seriously, there is nothing I hate more that "lol" and "omg" and "wft?". Are there really that many pre-teen girls watching Hannah Montana who just got back for Hollister? Speak and type like intelligent human beings.

And about the person who confused "you're" with "your", leave him alone. It could've just been a typo. Though it is pathetic that he's trying to cover it up.

And I'm not an old man who is tired of all the "crazy kids these days" typing like they're blindly smashing at their keyboards. I'm a 15 year old, one of the few who doesn't happen to talk like most of them.

If we are getting picky...

it should be from Hollister
wft should be wtf
could've is not proper, try "It could have been a typo."
as a rule never start a sentence with a conjunction like "and"
"like people who have made it out of elementary school."
put a comma after Hannah Montana
"Though it is pathetic that he's trying to cover it up." is a fragment not a sentence. (though should be although)
...all the "crazy kids these days" typing like they're blindly smashing at their keyboards. this is passive...just say all the "crazy kids" blindly smashing at their keyboards.
...need i go on.

I'm just teasing you. ;) When it comes to grammar on the web, people should really cut each other some slack. It's a forum, not a term paper. :D

no, your phone can learn to "lol"

like if you want to type "we're" without having to switch to your symbols tab, type "weree" and it autocorrects it as "we're"

the same works for "wtf" instead of "WTF"
type "wtff" and it will change it to "wtf"

"lol" is a bit trickier. type "loll" and it suggests "poll"
so hit the x to not change it to "poll" then hit backspace so you just have "lol"
then hit the spacebar. type "loll" again, deny the suggested "poll" backspace, space bar... you will have to repeat this a few times to get it to stop suggesting "poll" but if you do it a few times, when you type "loll" it will autocorrect it to "lol"

there you go, no "LOL"

however, sometimes it screws up on safari and suggests "poll" anyway, for instance, it did it to me a couple times when I was typing this, but it won't forget it in SMS.

hope this helps

Also, I appologize for the atrocious grammar. I didn't want to confuse anyone by putting punctuation inside the quotes.

Even if it sounds weird and stupid, just follow the steps and it'll work for you without you having to jailbreak your phone or anything like that.

correction

Ok, well I was actually screwin around with this some more after resetting my phone's dictionary, and I got it to let me get "lol" from "oo" and "ooo" and "llll" and actually "lol" followed by any letter (lolq, lolc, loli, lolx, etc.)

Basically just mess around with it, and if you think you screwed your dictionary up, just go to settings>general>reset>dictionary.

haha I'm glad I experimented with it, since all I have to do now is type "oo"

I didn't go too far back to see if this was posted, but just FYI it is NOT auto-capitalized anymore in 3.0 :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

If you're male, and over 15, you shouldn't be using 'LOL' anyway.

yea, you should be saying te-hehe instead

Sorry to derail this thread from its grammar-nazi-baiting insanity and back to somewhere resembling the original topic:

I also have an autocorrect peeve. After 15 years of texting and many thousands of messages, I almost always end my text messages with 'xx'. My iPhone stubbornly insists on replacing 'xx' with 'fx'. Even if I cancel the autocorrect 10 times in a message, and send it off (xx xx xx xx xx xx ... ), it still stubbornly insists on auto-correcting it to 'fx'.

Since I put xx at the end of the message, many of my contacts have been puzzled to get messages from me ending in 'fx'.

Creating a new contact called 'xx' and rebooting hasn't worked either.

Could one of you iPhone auto-correct mavens let me know how to sort that out, and also if it is fixed in 3.0 ?

Thanks

RedTomato

(PS: spot the deliberate grammar mistake.)
