I considered it, worked through the discounts over the 2 year term with Verizon, and with our 4GB shared on two phones, it’s actually cheaper to buy discounted on contract (and needing solid, National coverage with LTE, I’ve only got a couple of options anyway ...)

I'm always paying full retail price on iPhones. Costs me 300€ a year when I sell my "old" phone.

I like to be flexible with my Carrier and it's always much cheaper.

I paid full retail for my unlocked 6, refuse to give up my $60 for 6g plan on Rogers. They would also make me pay a $220 early upgrade fee and I would be paying over $100 a month for 1g and signing another two year contract. No thanks.

All good except you're not likely to be able to sell your 6+ a year from now for $600. Probably more like $450-500.

I was just thinking the 6plus would hold its value a bit more than an S because there likely won't be a form redesign.

I sold my 5S and bought a 6 full retail to keep my cell bill $25 a month for unlimited talk and text plus 1GB data through Sprint Framily.

If you want a true evaluation of what you are paying, you need to also consider the time value of money. How much can be made from investing the funds being expended for the new phone over the course of the next year?

That's a good point and I did think of that. It deserves mention as part of the cost. And of course compounded it could add up. But that's true with any purchase you make.

If you don't pay full retail, you are just making up your savings by paying a higher monthly rate than if you came at the same plan with a paid-for phone. [...] You always pay for the phone, it is just a question of upfront or over time.

Bingo.

You're paying full price for the phone one way or another. Any suggestions by a carrier that you aren't are just smoke and mirrors hiding the reality.
TANSTAAFL.

I paid full retail for my 128gb iPhone 6. I canceled my order from AT&T because they were telling me November 9 -27th to receive my phone. Then I went online to the apple website and ordered my phone with in store pickup.

I get to the store and show them the barcode from the Apple Store app that popped up. They tell me that my carrier canceled my order because I had an existing contract ( the canceled order) and could not buy a new phone.

The Apple Store lady was stumped so she went and got her manager who reran the order and sold me the phone anyway off contract.

Since you will pay for the phone in the end anyway I decided to use my card and get reward points in the process.

I then promptly did the unlock request to keep my options open.

I just paid $649 for my iPhone 6 16 GB. My upgrade isn't due until April, 2015 and I couldn't wait. I'll save my upgrade for the 6S or 7. I'm holding on to my iPhone 5 as a backup instead of buying Apple care this time. Hopefully won't need it.

Yeah I bought my 6+ unlocked as well. I prefer lower monthly bills over a cheaper up front price. I now have a 14€/month sim only contract that suits my needs very well, why pay more.

I'd rather save up for the iPhone myself and earn a little interest along the way.

Who else is paying full retail?

If thats good for you .. But i'm just using my 5s sale and the upgrade for me is only 399- 5s sales for 400 so for me its a no brainer thats for the 6+64G - and yes in the USA ..
