I’m in the market for a new streamer. Those of you familiar with multiple devices, have you noticed any differences in picture and sound between them?

Been using the 4K for two months and I enjoy the remote ... after I added a Fintie cover

Great grip on it, fits well and not an issue with the remote.

Apps and video load fast - I hung onto my third gen for far too long! Looks great on my older Sony 2K TV

Will wait for the next one to add to my other LG TV - it’s OS is decent but load times are sluggish.

I have a 4K ATV in the living room and the 1080p version in my bedroom. I don’t mind updating (the one in my bedroom is getting slow and has problems running some of the games in Apple Arcade), so my plan is to either get 2 new Apple TV’s when it gets refreshed, or upgrade the one in the living room and move the older 4K model into my bedroom.

Either way, no rush for me. I can wait.

We like to play Asphalt-8. If GameLoft finally releases Asphalt-9 (for Apple-TV) but if it was on Arcade, I would start a subscription.

What games do you like to play that are exclusively on Apple Arcade?

I tried oceanhorn (the game that kept crashing on my Apple TV), towaga (felt the gameplay got repetitive very quickly), grindstone (love it the most), card of darkness, monster’s expedition, Spelldrifter (loved the rogue like element, but the game felt incomplete), towers of everland (seemed too much like a freemium game with the iap elements removed) and fallen knight (but just can’t seem to muster the block timing).

I won’t say I particularly love any of them, but they are there, I have a MFI game controller and I don’t own any other consoles; so there.

Have my eye on shantae, shinsekai, steel sky and space land but I have actually been busier last year and this, and I have been plugging away at this game called “slay the spire” which has been sucking up my free time.

My Apple TV itself is fine. But I do think the swipe interface on the Apple TV remote is highly inaccurate, and there is no consistency to the speed in which moving across the surface swipes between elements on screen.

I have put Apple TV's in 4 households in my family and every single one of us prefers to use a Logitech Harmony remote instead.

Can you use Siri with that remote?

Yeah, we love our Harmony remotes.

In the main theater-room (with our Apple-TV) ... I use the Harmony Elite with Hub for everything. The exception is Apple-TV use. I mean, I use the Harmony to start/setup everything for "Use Apple-TV" Activity, then pickup the Siri-Remote. We use that for everything while using the Apple-TV (including gaming and any apps or media).

And someone above mentioned LG remotes. Ours is cheap but it is 4K (and picture is nice). In that room, I have a Harmony-650. I'm hardly ever forced or required to use the cheap LG remote.

If you hate the ATV remote (as I do).... replace it with a Logitech Harmony 650 (as I did) works great, controls not only the ATV, but all the other devices as well

I’m satisfied with the ATV4K, only serious omission for me now is spatial audio. Assuming the new one supports it, I’ll buy one at the first opportunity to use with AirPods Max.

Remote isn’t great but goes from awful to fine with a cover on it. Solves some of the problems, namely orientation, much fewer accidental presses of touch area etc.

The recent update to the Netflix app on our ATV4 tvOS 13.4.8 crashes on launch, even after restarting the ATV and deleting & reinstalling Netflix :( So we streamed some Netflix and Amazon Prime last night via their apps on our Dish Hopper 3 satellite receiver. After just one night using a remote with buttons, we may never go back to using our Apple TV. And we certainly won’t upgrade to a new ATV with another “wiggle your thumb and hope for the best” remote.

Got rid of my Apple TVs for the same reasons you're talking about. I also had an issue where I would constantly get logged out of my apps (Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, etc.) for no reason. Whether that was related to the Apple TV or the apps themselves, I don't know...all I know is it doesn't seem to happen with Fire TV. Performance on Fire TV is just fine, and it comes with a remote that doesn't value form over function. I'd be willing to try Apple TV again if it gets a serious overhaul but, I'm in no hurry to change back.

My two main issues with it are

1) it’s easy to lose in the couch cushions

2) if you grab it and don’t look it’s easy to grab it upside down and then you try swiping on the glass bottom instead

I also wish it had at least one more programmable button: my TV supports CEC but my stereo doesnt, so while the TV turns on and off appropriately with the aTV and I can program the volume buttons and control the stereo volume with the remote I can’t turn on and off the receiver with it. And I’m not replacing a perfectly good stereo receiver just to get CEC.

Overall I do really like the trackpad like surface though, I just wish it was a bit more ergonomic and maybe had another programmable button or two.
Have you tried to wrist strap for the remote? It almost seems silly how big a different that made for us. We went from always losing it to almost always being able to find it—at least as much as any remote, certainly better than the last gen Apple TV.

I like our Apple TV a lot. I also appreciate that I'm paying not just for hardware but years of hardware support. Apple has been keeping this hardware current for over four years and will likely continue (at least for streaming apps) through the next hardware iteration. I like the software in my LG TV but LG is already phasing out support for my 2018 OLED. Glad I'm not dependent on them!

Lots of features I wish they'd add.

Yeah, it's sad how quickly (pretty much all manufacturers) start dropping support for the OS and Apps in the Smart-TVs. It especially hurts if it was an expensive one and you are trying to actually use/depend on the Apps.

Yeah, if yall are paying for XM in one of your cars, remember you can use SiriusXM app on Apple-TV for free (no AirPlay required). I just installed it and it's pretty cool. Sounds good on Home Theater sound system. They also had some videos.

They want you to buy new TVs, that will never change.

The apple tv i am using is great getting a feed from an airport 2007 and the lowest 25internets per speed, internets.
the remote needs getting used to but i like the entire set up

Just go a new TV yesterday, a 4K TV from LG, and - for the moment - hooked it up to my old Apple TV 4, outputting 1080p. The TV scales up the picture very well, and the quality - based on yesterday's evening viewing - is excellent.

But, I still would like a new 4K enabled Apple TV. I "refuse" to buy the current one, with 3+ year old tech, so Apple needs to release an updated version soon.

In the mean time I've set up WebOS on the LG TV today, and are currently conducting an experiment on whether I actually _need_ a new Apple TV, or if the built in apps are good enough. The longer it takes, the stronger the chance that I get used to WebOS, and don't miss the Apple TV enough to justify a purchase. (Or - on the other hand - frustration might build up, and I'll but the next version at any price... ;))
I bought an LG oled I want another 4K Apple TV for it but am not buying one with an outdated processor cmon Apple just update the thing

I need a second Apple TV as well. I want 6th generation Apple TV to have:
  • Better Video Experience: Faster processor for video processing comparable to Nvidia SHIELD (AI Upscaling), support for VVC and AV1 codecs, and HDMI 2.1 for quick mode switching.
  • Better Gaming Experience: Faster processor for faster frame rate and HDMI 2.1 for reduced judders and input lag.
  • Larger Base Storage: tvOS should take better advantage of larger storage, especially for Apple Arcade.
  • Built-in Microphone: I would prefer Apple TV set top box to have always on microphones (as opposed to on the remote), similar to Amazon Fire TV Cube.
  • Simplified Remote: This might be controversial to fans of the Siri Remote, but I want a simplified remote similar to 3rd generation Apple TV ($19 aluminum remote), but with more buttons, Bluetooth, U1, and MagSafe charging. No Touch surface and Siri microphones.
  • Apple Arcade Controller: Apple-designed gaming controller.
I would like 3 SKUs:
  1. Apple TV 6 Arcade ($249): 6th generation Apple TV, 256GB, Simplified Remote, Apple Arcade Controller, 3-month Apple Arcade subscription
  2. Apple TV 6 ($179): 6th generation Apple TV, 64GB, Simplified Remote
  3. Apple TV 5 ($129): 5th generation Apple TV (slightly modified with built-in microphone), 32GB, Simplified Remote

I'm a couple of steps ahead of you and my experience is that the LG works very well but the UI isn't particularly consistent between apps. It's good until you get to the service that isn't on LG WebOS. In my case HBO Max.

I’m still using the 3rd Gen Apple TV & slowly apps like Crave & YouTube are discontinuing their function on this & older models.

To be expected as the 3rd gen is around 9 yrs old, which is rather old in technology.

You can still Airplay them to the unit if you have iPhone or iPad, which is ok but a pain sometimes.

I will upgrade to nothing but Apple TV but the big question is: when to pull the trigger...?! Now or continue to wait on the hope they will release something new...?!

For those that have new Apple TV units, how is the Airplay function, specifically when streaming music? I find it sometimes is very spotty and that’s being just 10 ft from the unit using an iPhone 11.
