Well the bars are closed and the person who was buying alcohol forgot.

And how is Christmas so great for everyone in this thread who are not spending quality time with their family, but instead are here? ;)

MR is part of my family

So... Christmas sucks because of your poor planning??

And you don't need alcohol to have a good time
In fact, without it, you might actually remember it

Me ... just killing some time with the quality folks on MR ... then going over to my little sister's place where the whole family will gather and celebrate our time together. ... hardly a waste of time.

Plus we will all watch the Cowboys-Cardinals Football game together this evening with even more food and festivities.

giddy-up Cowboys

Christmas is awesome. I am not religious nor celebrate the "birth of Christ", but rather use Christmas as a time to bond as a family, stuff our faces with food and exchange gifts.

I actually like the whole commercialisation of Christmas to an extent. Trees, lights, everything in town being lit up for commercial reasons than for Christians.

I'm not anti-religious by any means, but I from my perspective, Christmas is the only good thing to come out of Christianity.

What about Cadbury Creme Eggs?

Wow, you don't need a holiday to get together with family and friends.
Sometimes people don't live nearby, traveling for the holidays is common. Out of all days I could come home, Christmas is the day that is most guaranteed. As much as my family kills my buzz sometimes, I wouldn't skip this day.

Down from where? :D

[visions of Waloshin keeping his family in attic and only letting them out for holidays]

Season's Greetings, bro.

fixed that for you. :D

One thing that bugs me about Christmas is the ugly decorations and colors that are strewn everywhere. Stop it with the cheap greens and reds everywhere! Fugley.

I spent two christmas' deployed in Iraq...so no I don't think it is a waste of time. Be grateful that you are able to be with your family and have an actual Christmas.

Why is it that people tend to get attacked on this forum for not sharing the belief of the status quo around here? I don't have a problem with christmas but it gets old after a while.

The day has pretty much been sold out and is one of the main examples of american capitalism.

And what makes me laugh is that people actually think jesus was born today. He wasn't and the 25th was originally a pagan holiday it wasn't even till Pope Julius I demanded that the birth of jesus be moved to the 25th. Like i said i don't mind christmas but this forum seems very cliquish in the regards of not respecting other peoples pov's.

i don't think the OP was bashed in one way or another. read the first post.

maybe if the OP stated why (at least in the first post), maybe some people would have expressed sympathy, given help or tips etc. to make the OP think differently.

on a side note: i believe christmas has been more about "the gifts". too commercial. but! i love to see the eyes of the people i give gifts shine, especially giving them something, they were happy to receive. ok. need to stop rambling, my beer is getting warm.

have a happy christmas everyone.

As with anything else in this world, it's only a waste of time if you actually waste your time with it. And if you feel that way about your time and still choose to waste it, then the problem is with you, and not the holiday.

very well put, its not about Christmas per say, everyone has different thoughts about Christmas. IMO, It's about spending time with people you love and being grateful for what you have.

You do when a great deal of them live far away. Anyway, I totally disagree, I actually wish I had this chance to be with people I care about having dinner more times during the year.

Like everyone else who have commented on this, I live two hours away from my parents, and I'm a full time student taking 16+ credit hours per semester. My cousin lives 3 hours away from her parents. My mom and uncle live an hour away from each other. I'm a student. My Mother works full time. My Uncle and Aunt works full time. My brothers live at home and commute to college. My Cousin and her Husband work full time.

As you can see here, it becomes a challenge to get everybody together for a meal. Christmas allows everyone to see each other, relax, enjoy the spirit of the holidays and what not.

And I've been around these people for 3 days now. MR is my release from everybody.

I used to think it's a waste of time, and still do to some extent. But this year, it's an excuse to be in Switzerland for 10 days with the best friends a person can have, and with the best hosts ever. I'm staying in an executive corporate 3 bedroom apartment suite for free, with 7 of my best friends...for free. Just got the greatest gift anyone could ask for, even for an atheist. The next 7 days are filled with skiing in the Swiss Alps, lots of chocolate, drinking, chilling out, relaxing, movies, and snowball fights. I despise the American version of Christmas, but it's just an excuse to be with my real family.
