1) You have to spend lots of money on Christmas presents.
The wife and I spent about $200 total on gifts for 20 or so people. Your definition of lots may vary.
2) On Christmas eve which if you dont know is December 24th nothing is open past 3pm, but for the local 7-11. So if you want to get food or get a drink or do something you cant!
3) Christmas day everything is closed nothing opens, once again 7-11 is the only thing open. So once you get bored of sitting around the dinner table listening to stories about work theirs nothing else to do.
My wife, who works retail, had to work until 5pm on Christmas Eve. After that, we drove for 4 hours to get to my parent's house, passing numerous open restaurants, gas stations, and even an open Wal-Mart or two.
Christmas morning my brother realized he had forgotten to get a fresh propane tank (we deep fry multiple turkeys at our house), so we got in the car and within 10 minutes found 3 open places staffed by someone willing to give up part of their holiday to work, and all 3 of them had a much cheerier attitude than you're displaying, despite being at their job rather than at home with their families enjoying the day. to be fair, we should also include the numerous police, firefighters, EMTs, doctors, and nurses, etc. who also have to work holidays.
4) I go to Digg.com to find out that the whole front page is full of crappy Christmas stories.
So find something else to do.
5) Boxing Day sales on the 26th are overcrowded with children with all their Christmas money. And the sales arent that great either.
If the sales aren't all that great, then why do you bother going and getting upset at the crowds? You'd do better sitting at home and feeling sorry for yourself.
