I have a 3G and 3GS sitting on my desk. I just took a sheet of paper and wrapped it horizontally around the curve, and marked it on each. Exactly the same. Then I did the same vertically. Exactly the same.

Same circumference, same dimensions. Same to the naked eye.

What capacity do you have? The aforementioned thread says only the 32GB is less tapered at the edges.

But, then again, you claim you can feel the 2 grams difference in weight, so you're clearly just making stuff up.

Frank Abagnale Jr. could detect 2.8g difference in weight to detect fakes.

did you just watch the directors cut of catch me if you can????

Ill take your word that he could detect a 2.8g difference but there is no way that you can accurately detect a .1g difference!

1) 32GB black

2) 2.8 > 2, and you aren't Frank Abagnale Jr. (I also believe Penn Gillette and certain magicians, with years of practice, could tell the difference.)

Also, a difference in weight has no bearing on the looks as your thread title specifically denotes "looking" better.

The 3GS is 1000x more GORGEOUS than the 3G! The 3G is FUGLY compared to the 3GS. NO comparison! You guys who think they're the same must be blind!!! And the weight? OMG!! The 3GS is so much lighter it makes the 3G feel like a brick! I can't belive I owned that heavy, ugly POS for almost a year!

Now back to our regularly scheduled reality. The OP is nuttier than an almond grove.

I immediately noticed the weight difference too which is why I returned it and went back to an iPhone 3G. I know it doesn't sound like much but it adds up when you have to lug a lot of stuff around. And what if there were some emergency where I had just enough strength to lift a 133 g phone to my face but not a 135 g phone? Just playing the odds there.

But I will concede the 3GS is better looking. I love the way they subtlely evolved the back of it to the new muscular sculpted look.

Oh my! LOL! I thought he wrote the title wrong, because if I wasn't mistaken the 3G and 3G S looks just a like.

Maybe the RDF on the 3G S is stronger...

if you mean better looking in the same sense that a 40 year old guy turns in his first wife for a women 1/2 her age, but looks exactly like her at age 20, then yes.

personally my now defunct OG iphone is sitting in it's cradle, regulated to remote & wifi work around the house and it still looks better to me than a 3G or the .1 oz heavier 3GS

Hello,

Other than the chrome lettering, they have exactly the same outside appearance, shape, and size.

Good bye.

From aforementioned thread:

The 32GB one i got today IS bulkier. Now its not to say its thicker because its not, BUT it is shaped differently. The 32GB 3GS compared to my previous 8GB 3G is fatter towards the ends. My Griffin clear hard case does not fit due to its bulkier back shape. The previous 8GB models had a macbook air type bowl tapered shape, which is why it kinda wobbles when you set it on the table, while this new 32GB one is flat backed. The 32GB definitely has more noticeable heft compared to my old 8GB 3G. Since this bulk doesn't actually make the phone thicker per-say since the thickest part in the middle is no thicker then previous gens, but the back is definitely shaped not as slender towards the edge as previous models. The store clerk says only the 32GB were made like this, the 16GB 3GS shares the same size as the old gens.

I'll have to compare mine to my old 3G I just gave my wife and see. It makes sense though, because I have a gunmetal incase slider case that I took off my 3G and put on my 32GB 3G S last night, and the bigger half of the case was always very loose on my 3G, and I could barely get it off my 3G S. It took me about 10 minutes just to get the damn case off!

Same case and situation with me. I know the case isn't going anywhere, though!

I think the fitment problems I've been having are just due to ever so slight tolerances in Apple's design. I managed to pry my 3G S out of my slider, and got my old 3G out to compare sizes. They look exactly the same to the naked eye, too bad I don't have anything to help with tiny measurements. It seems my 3G was on the small side, and my 3G S is on the large side. My wife bought a white slider to put on my old 3G, and it behaves the same as my gunmetal slider, it fits the 3G loosely and it's almost impossible to pry off the 3G S.

I thought they felt different too, but they are not. The capacity of them have nothing to do it with. Just like physical size of SD cards don't change with capacity. Chips can be different capacity but be the same size.

Thank you! Someone with actual technical knowledge! YAY!

OP, sorry to break it to you, but it just ain't happenin'...

I *really* don't think we're feeling the weight (and for the record, I kind of noticed it too).

I think we're feeling a slightly different (better) BALANCE.

I wonder if they moved components inside? Maybe the vibrate motor?

I wouldnt be surprised if apple took the same plastic back from the 3G production line and just changed the ink to chrome and put the 3GS hardware in it lol. So it would LITERALLY be the same as 3GS haha.

Lol, there's no difference in the tapering of the iPhone 3gs versus 3g.. exact same from what I can tell from the technical documents of the iPhone and eye balling the two right now.
