Do you make use of the 9600M GT graphics card, and if so, for what?

  • I use the faster graphics card often or sometimes (please specify your uses in post)

$400 to $500 difference isn't JUST for the 9600m GT. its the extra screen real estate, firewire, expresscard, better speakers the ability to SWITCH between 2 gpus, and most of all, the superior screen. I haven't used it once yet because I haven't used any apps that required it. And oh, I only paid $1,650 for mine so just $50 more than the top MB. :D

I'd really like to use the 9600M GT all the time if Apple FINALLY (!) puts a fixed version of the last NVIDIA graphic driver update online! I have problems playing 1080i material smoothly like movie trailers on the Apple Homepage or iTunes HD content. (1080i *.ts or *.mpg material works fine.) As mentioned before in this thread, it is a well-known problem. If I can believe the forum people, this really was fixed by the last Apple graphic update. But as it caused a lot of other problems, it was stopped by Apple. I'm not willing to take the risk to download the old unfixed update somewhere in the net (especially because I use an external monitor which, as reported, is one of the main problem factors after this update), but I really want a fixed version of this driver!! How silly is it that I have to switch to my cheap on-board graphic chip to watch 1080i trailers??? The 9600M GT also gives me smooth eyeTV playback in fullscreen while having opened dashboard. The on-board version doesn't. Last but not least, I have the impression that Exposé works faster with the 9600 - show all windows and that kind of stuff ...

I use my 9600 when I'm gaming (I don't really get to choose), or when I use applications like Photoshop that support the GPU. Finally if I'm using my computer as a desktop (clamshell running the external display) I also use the 9600. I use the 9400 otherwise.
