Why would anyone want two phones?

It's like people who have two cars and two different televisions in the same room.

I've never understood it...

I have four phones, Blackberry Bold for work, jailbroken Iphone 4S, HTC One X and Galaxy S 3. I have to keep the BB and will keep two of the latter three. Just need to evaluate the HTC first.

I also have two cars, an SUV and a classic Porsche that I drive on the weekends.

It's good to have variety in life, except for a wife of course:)

I've had an iPhone for regular daily use since the first version but picked up a used Ssmsung Focus last year to check out WP and for use anywhere I didn't want to carry the iPhone (i.e. beach, Busch Gardens). I was pleasantly surprised by WP, especially Mango though not enough to permanently switch.

The Samsung has since bit the dust but just bought a Galaxy Nexus and will finally put Android through the ringer when that arrives later this week though again, it'll be used primarily as a backup and if I ever need to travel internationally since its unlocked.

I'd put more than two in the same room if I could figure out a logical reason that would be convincing to my wife. I don't think "so I can watch more than one football game at a time in the fall" would do the trick.

I use 4s as main device and Motorola Atrix as second phone to talk with my girl.
Biometric sure helps a lot.
Haha

2 wifes or 2 girlfriends too? :D

I use a 4S and a Samsung Nexus S without service as a i(droid) touch to play around with Android from time to time. Also have a 3GS and a 2G, both unlocked for backups and traveling. :)

i have sold my 9900 and going to buy note today. i think you must have both android and ios. i know we are crazy a little... :D

I don't use 2 phones at the same time, but I've seen people in Hong Kong subway using a Galaxy Note with a non-smartphone or an iPhone.

Haha, yea my iPhone 4 is still in pristine condition. I swap em around every now and then, thanks to the HTC One X having a mini sim card. Couldn't do that with the Inspire 4G.

I like to have the best of both worlds, just wasn't feeling the 4s, but I'll definitely get the iPhone 5

I've had the first gen, since the beginning. Don't use it much expect for a talking piece and occasional iPod.

i have iphone 4s and blackberry 9900. but i want to change my 9900 to galaxy note. what do you think about that?
If it fits your needs/wants, great. If not, do some more research. There isn't enough info in your OP to really form much of an opinion. The opinions of others isn't relevant if their needs/wants aren't in line with your own. As an example, my own opinion doesn't matter. I tested the Note and couldn't stand it. YMMV, as with any subjective matter.

Why would anyone assume that his/her preferences are universal? For me, it's to keep work separate and to keep corporate Exchange policies off my phone. Can't speak for you or anyone else. Do whatever works for you.

Not understanding or not being able to imagine an option doesn't mean that there isn't a good reason for someone choosing that option. It just means that you lack imagination or the understanding that needs/wants can vary from person to person.

I have two cars because they're entirely different tools that fulfill entirely different purposes. One's a convertible, two seater sports car. The other's a utility vehicle. No need for two TV's in the same room though. Again, do what works for you. Just don't assume that everyone else is the same -- regardless of the topic.

In my case I use a Nokia N9 and an iPhone 4.

Why two? Simple one is my home country phone and one is my work phone for the country I am working in, when I go home I need to take both.

iPhone used to be my main (work phone )but now switched to the Nokia and use the iPhone as my home country visiting device.

work issued Blackberry. iPhone for personal.

When I was living in US, I only need one phone and that was my iPhone (whichever was the latest at that time :D). But now that I've relocated to Indonesia, I need at least 2 phones and one of them MUST be a Blackberry, the other is iPhone because I love my iPhone. If you ever live or work in Indonesia, you'll need a Blackberry. I don't know why the country is so obsessed with it, but it's becoming an essential part of life. People no longer ask for your phone number, instead they ask for your BB PIN number

I carry 4s and motorola photon 4g.
Photon 4g serves great as its dual mode handset with sim support for both cdma and gsm.

4s works on airtel vidafone 3g network and is daily phone and photon works on routine aircel sim and reliance cdma as back up if i land up in some dead spit fir couple of days.
Cdma still has great potential and has better clarity.
