If i get a scratch on my screen i would be killing myself because i didnt have a screen protector, plus i would be fixated at the scratch all day everyday, im ocd like that

Ok, I've changed my mind (at least temporarily). Sitting at Starbucks reading these posts and realized I have never actually seen the iPad retina screen without a screen protector. I ripped the old one off and wow. I'm going to give it the weekend and see how I like it.

For those who are not liking your screen protectors, if you are worried about your screen, try PowerSupport (the ipad 2 version is exactly the same).

It is not one of the cheapest, but I can guarantee that the look and feel of is amazingly the exact same as the actual glass. No difference whatsoever.

You might not scratch your screen ever but having it there makes you feel more comfortable with it, specially when it's on someone else's hands, you don't have to be that careful.

Buy SPIGEN NOT Case-mate

I tried this one from SPIGEN and it works very well, doesn't take away anything from the retina display. All these protectors are a little tricky to apply

DON'T buy this one from case-mate. They are trying to palm the iPad2 ones off by calling them suitable for the new iPad. It makes the retina display look weird. They won't respond to my emails and will not approve my review on their website!!

I agree with everything @tmarks11 mentioned...

+1 for Powersupport anti-glare. Highly, highly recommended I have on my original iPad, iPhone, and now new iPad. I use it not for scratch protection but because of the anti-glare and also mostly eliminates smudges and need to wipe clean so often. The bare screen without it also seems to be a real dust magnet too. The texture/feel is fine, unlike some others I've tried. it does seem to decrease the brightness of the screen a bit but I don't find that a problem. If you don't need the anti-glare then PS makes a Crystal clear film too - I've used those and they're equally good

because of it's slight stiffness it goes on really easily - the scotch tape trick is the KEY if you get a dust spec. I've installed many of these with no problem. They can even removed/reinstalled without problem. My original iPhone 3GS was replaced by Apple after it was 2.5 yrs old, and I was able to easily remove the original PS film and reapply it to the new replacement phone. went on perfectly, film still looks like new. would not have been able to do that with some cheaper films I've tried before.

I use some cheap no-namer branded screen protector from eBay that cost like £1.50. It's very smooth and does the job, but it is a serious fingerprint magnet and does not clean well at all. The fingerprints are very visible with the screen off but barely with it on so it's not a huge deal.

I don't get people saying the iPad glass doesn't scratch. If you mean big visible scratches then fair enough, but in my experience past iPhone and iPad screens have easily gained lots of small thin scratches (that are only viewable with screen off at a certain angle, but still annoying). My past iPad even obtained these with the smart cover on (presumably just little particles rubbing against the screen).

My anti-glare power support screen protector is sitting on the shelf, waiting for me to get unlazy and install it.

Need to do it, as all the smudges on the screen are driving me nuts; I prefer the look of the anti-glare to the stock shiny surface.

You get used to the change in texture in a few days, and won't even notice it after a while.

Wrt bubbles: face the fact, they are not going to go away. Each of those bubbles probably actually represents a dust particle trapped under the plastic. Get a quality screen protector (power support is my vote, installed 2 on iPads without a flaw, and countless on PDAs before that).

As you roll it into place, if you see a dust particle getting embedded, then roll it back a bit, and lift the dust particle off with scotch tape. Works like a charm. Search this forum for some fairly detailed descriptions of how to do this right; that knowledge will help a lot.

The Power Support is out already? I went to their website to purchase and it said "coming soon."

Try the Spigen Glas.t. It's actually made of glass! It feels exactly like the iPhone or iPad screen, and you can't tell it applied.

I emailed to ask when they would be available, and they emailed back and said that their iPad 2 screen protectors had been verified to fit iPad 3, and they would not be making an ipad 3 specific model. so I ordered the ioad2 version.

I will let you all know how it fits. Don't see why it wouldn't work; the front is virtually identical to the ipad2, afaik.

I have the Powersupport crystal film set installed and it works perfectly. I believe it is the iPad 2 one.
I purchased it directly from the Powersupport store in Burbank, excellent people to deal with.

Have my PS Crystal HD film on and love it. Can't even tell its there. Had it installed on 3 other friends iPad's and they also are loving it. It also helps that I live about 15 minutes from the power support store so I get a perfect installation!!!

For those of you asking the power's support Crystal film for the iPad2 fits the new iPad perfectly. when I went to the store I asked them if they had to make Adjustments to the film for the new iPad and they told me no, the only film they may have to make adjust is the antiglare and the only reason they're doing it is because of the retina display. there will be no adjustment to the Crystal HD film

Buy the screen protector, better safe than sorry.

I did not buy one, I did buy a protective case with a cover. I have had the new iPad since it was released and already have a handful of micro scratches. You can't see them unless the screen is off and you look at it from an angle. I imagine they'll get worse - looking at the protector now and hope they don't get more noticeable once one is on. I'm OCD in taking care of it, but I do have kids. One scratch I'm sure is from one of them threw a Lego block at it (contact point and scratch are in the same place). Maybe it's a coincidence, but it doesn't seem to difficult to scratch.

There are only two types of people who would use a screen protector on the The New iPad:

1. Auto Mechanics

2. Women

So, no, thankfully I don't qualify.

I've got a Skinomi screen protector on mine and cat even tell it's there. The screen is just as slick and clear as it was without. Necessary? Probably not. I wanted the rear case protection and that wasn't available without the screen protection so I installed it.

Just installed my cheapie AG on my ipad. It is definitely a lot harder that a 4S due to the shear amount of screen to cover. I also removed the entire backing which was a mistake. Defitely the way to go is to remove the backing as you go. Not sure how to make sure dust isn't on the screen as you do this but I will retry plus I have two others to work with.

I would say plane mechanics first but that's just me :D
