Who has bought an iPhone 4 from apple at full retail vs contract price?

Kind of half and half.

I buy them on contract, but then buy another a few months later with a new contract and they (AT&T) charge me $100 more, so $299 and $399 for an iPhone 4.

Haven't done it since 4.2.1, but previously I'd get them, unlock them and sell them to T-Mobile customers for $600, then when the option to early upgrade for a penalty came in, I'd buy another. It was an easy $300 net for a while there...

Bought it full price unlocked for 879,30$ Cad at the apple store ImageUploadedByTapatalk1300053037.259926.jpg

One contract, one full price.
The full price one made more sense, it was for my wife, and over the two years it would save me money on the sim only plan she is on.
The contract one was for me, and being on a two year contract is my way of making sure I skip iPhone 5 and wait for 6

I bought sim free at full price from apple in the uk. That way you can get a much cheaper monthly plan and overall the costs work out about the same, just obviously with a higher initial outlay

I did. It's not something I'm going to do again though. Not worth it in the long run.

I did the same -- now using three payg for 15 pounds/month with 300min/3000sms/genuinely unlimited data. Worth it to not be bound to 24 month contract and unlocked.

I did also. However I sold my Droid Incredible for $200 on eBay and my 32GB iPod touch for $275. So, $599 for the 16GB iPhone minus $475 that I earned from sales meant I paid $125 before taxes. Not too shabby I think.

Sounds like you sold your Droid Incredible for too little.

I would never pay full MSRP on an iPhone. Its not worth it to me.

Agreed. Here in the US, there really is no benefit other than not being locked into a contract. We don't get cheaper monthly plans if we pay full price rather than a subsidized price.

I also bought it full price at the Apple Store in Montreal, Canada.

I travel a lot and I believe it gets better resale price afterwards.

Contract price for me.

I was 3 months into my att contract with an iphone 4 32GB.

verizon iPhone came out and I placed my att phone on ebay immediately. Was trying to get $650 for it with mophie juice case. Guy offered me $600 cash (i bypassed shipping fees, ebay fees and paypal fees:D)

Later that night I stood in the freezing cold for two hours and purchased the vIphone. I never took any of the plastic off and placed it immediately into an incipio snap case.

When the iPhone 5 comes out I will repeat the process :D
