The title assumes that one switched from Windows and the only switching option is to move to Windows.

No, the title assumes that one has used Windows (as a main OS) and asks if one ever thinks about once again using Windows (as a main OS).

I just bought a 17" dell with very impressive specs for watching videos and storing pictures. windows 8 is terrible for email and finding files. I really wish they could take a queue from apple and make a better email program and a better search feature for the os. I also wish scrolling and switching between application windows wasn't such a chore. They could take a queue from spaces as well.

The IT guy said it was going to be from HP and 'sleek'. Other than that I don't known what it will be. Touch screen on a laptop seems ergonomically incorrect to me. Switching between keyboard, track pad and screen seems awkward. But I'm willing to give it a shot.

I'm able to keep at least an A4-sized pad between the laptop and myself in the office, a touch screen would be completely useless for me there. When I use it "for me", I move it a lot closer and I would definitely be able to use a touch screen without much of a hassle.

Ummm, about 7/10 threads in the macbook section are about problems too. I use Windows and Mac, both have their strengths and weaknesses. Anyone who swears by one over the other because "it's better" is probably just better with one than the other, and mistakes their fault for the computer's.

I too use both... very extensively at work, and home.

Those who talk about all the problems with windows, are either exaggerating because they hate it, or simply lack the knowledge to work with it. It's no different than those haters that don't have the knowledge to use Android & hate it.

I enjoy both, each for their respective strengths, keeping in mind that no system is perfect. I'm a technologist that enjoys all platforms & the challenges that come with them. The rewards of being skilled with Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS & Android are immense & highly satisfying.

As I see it, their is no "better" there's simply "different" a fact I enjoy. I have my favorites, yet in no way do I have a desire to declare them "best". If not for the variety & excellent capabilities of the various platforms, things would be awfully boring.

which is what I said

I interpreted what you said as the title of the thread assuming there are only two operating systems that one can switch between: OS X and Windows.

Did I misinterpret you?

I went from DOS to OS/2 to OS X. Though I have mucked about with Windows in various VMs starting with 3.1.

I am not afraid to muck about with an OS, and have occasionally be asked to help someone make a feature work on their Windows system. For the record, I don't 'fix' Window issues.

Inevitably, when we are done navigating menus and sub-menus, and consulting the Help on how to adjust a setting, I am left just scratching my head at how something so simply could be made so difficult to do. I don't try to 'convert' Windows users - but when they ask me how I would accomplish the same thing on my Mac, I show them. Usually it's about 3 or 4 steps. And they ask what comes next, and tell them that we're done. And then they often tell me that even they could have done that. I agree with them, and tell them I have no idea why it takes 16 steps over 3 panels to accomplish the same thing on their system. To be fair, I haven't seen Windows 8 yet though.

what about those that never switched how can we switch back. How about those that switched from Linux the will not be "switching" back to Windows. The title implies that we all came from Window which isn't necessarily true. As an example I used my parents Apples through school, then used linux in college, then back to Apple in 2000 or so. Window's has never been my primary OS therefore I could switch back. I switched back to Apple once.

Then you're not included in the target group for this thread, simple as that. Just as a vegetarian wouldn't be the target for a thread called "Do you guys ever drink wine to your meat?". What you think the title assumes is simply stating which group of forum members this thread is aimed at.

It could have might as well been called "To those of you who have previously used Windows as a primary operating system and is are currently using something else, do you guys ever think about switching back to Windows?"

brand loyalty is for suckers. but no - unless something changes, OSX is the best OS i have ever used.

life-long windows user - forced to switch for work in 2009 or so, never looked back.

still prefer Android OS to iOS though. by far

he just wanted to brag about his linux skills

alt-tab?

granted, nothing beat gestures...but i command-tab all the time, i wouldn't call it a chore.

Back to Windows? Nah.

To Linux? It's getting more and more of an attractive choice as time goes on. I use Linux for development, and recently it became more and more pleasant to also use as an everyday OS.

I agree with this. Linux with Gnome 3 is just about on par with OSX when it comes to a full featured, easy to use, and really quite slick interface. The only thing I'd ding it for is that it's still a little overly difficult to install programs if you're not grabbing it off a repository, or it's not packaged in a .deb file.

Plus Linux is still very, very weak when it comes to 3rd party support. It's better than it has been previously, but still doesn't offer up anywhere near the huge amount of choices you'd get on Windows or OSX. This is the one major reason why I ran back to Windows after my great nerd experiment about a month ago. I like the OS and all, but there are some programs I just can't live without.

Agreed -- and glad to see another GNOME 3 fan! I see so much hate on the internet, and personally I don't get it. It's slick, smooth and easy-to-use.

Unity, though -- don't get me started!

Never have been a Windows user and probably never will be. The only time I use Windows is when I have to for school and certain applications. No problem with it, but it's not my preference for operating systems.

I use Windows more right now anyway. My Gaming Rig had to take over general PC duties when I sold my iMac. Still use OS X every now and then (still got a G4 gathering dust somewhere and I still use my MBA on occasions), but the iOSification of OS X put me off getting another Mac for now.

Unless a new Mac Pro comes out of course. Then I'll probably be using OS X a lot again. But if I had to switch back to Windows 100%, I wouldn't mind at all. Windows 8 is the most stable and solid release I've seen off Microsoft yet.

I already did. Though I still use my MacBook occasionally, my self-built PC is my primary computer.

The OS X Lion update essentially killed it and has slowed it down to a snail's pace.

I'm getting a Windiws 8 laptop from work next week. I'm interested to see how it works out.
I was a beta tester for Windows 8 about 3? years ago. I actually wrote on my review that windows 8 would more than likely bring down Microsoft. They have fixed tons of things since then and it is significantly better, but the outcome of that beta test was for me to switch over 'fully' to mac os.

I typed 'fully' because I have two servers here running linux ( sadly, changed over from solaris in 2010 ).

Yep. Apple pretty much forced my hand when they dropped Final Cut and didn't update their Mac Pro for 3... maybe 4 years now? I bought a "cheap" Dell, that is to say one of the most expensive Dell's and it was still less than a Macbook Air. It's not OS X, but it got work done until I switched jobs.

Now I have a 17" MBP to run Linux on, a macbook air for increasing my property value, and a PC gaming rig.

The IT guy said it was going to be from HP and 'sleek'. Other than that I don't known what it will be. Touch screen on a laptop seems ergonomically incorrect to me. Switching between keyboard, track pad and screen seems awkward. But I'm willing to give it a shot.

Hope it's a touch screen if you get Windows 8. It's such a good OS, on a touchscreen device. Not so much on a traditional laptop (but that's what Start 8 is for! :p )

Don't need to switch. I use my MBP as my primary computer and when I need to do something in Windows, I can bootcamp into Windows or pull out my Windows notebook computer. With the exception of personal economics, I don't understand why one must choose one or the other.

40% of the time my iMac is on, its in Windows 7.

I really like some things about Windows, and I really like a lot of things about osx. Both are superior in some aspects.

Windows: Gaming - Work
OSX: Everyday stuff
