I dropped mine the other day. Well, technically, I didn't drop it. It was on my laptop and I got up kind of quickly. It fell, but it had the headphones connected, so I grabbed the wire and it just barely hit the ground. It fell from 3 feet.

I have dropped it twice, once from my hand while sitting on a chair, and other, slipped out of my pant pocket. Both times, landed front up on carpets. Didn’t see any damage with a glass protector + ultra slim hard shell case.

Guess it’s one of those rare case example that wired headphones may one day save/reduce drop damage to your phone... :)

Twice, friend dropped my phone while it was in Apple case. No scratches or any visible damage closeup.

Silicone or leather and what kinda drop ? (Floor material / height)?

Got a tempered glass protector too?

I’m curious how protective the silicone is

At least four times so far. Glass protector is cracked but the screen under is not damaged. Case has saved any marks which is great.

Dropped it when I was putting it into my pants. No case or whatsoever on carpeted floor. No scratches, Dings or cracks.

Perhaps @fischersd can contribute to this thread. In fairness, he didn't drop his, I believe it fell out of his pocket. But nonetheless, his iPhone suffered damage.

Every time you drop it, you weaken the integrity of the glass.

Quoted from a materials engineer:

“Your brand new phone screen has billions of cracks in it. They're just really really really small. Now, anytime you do something to the phone (drop it, sit on it, bump your keys against it, whatever) you're putting stress on those cracks.

If the stress is over a certain threshold, it can cause the crack to grow. The longer the crack, the less stress needed for it to grow. So every time you drop your phone, you're effectively lowering what's called the critical stress - the amount of force it can take before catastrophic failure - aka a shattered screen.”

Dropped mine while it was plugged in. Was able to grab the cord and kind of catch it with my foot. I have the reflexes of a cat. No damage. I have a clear rubber case on the back and no screen protector.

Yep, as @Relentless Power said, mine slid out of my shirt pocket day 13 of owning it. First time I've damaged one of my phones (so, yes, it CAN happen to you!) ;) (No, it's pretty rare that I do the shirt pocket thing - as that's just asking for trouble....wasn't thinking).

Gratuitous pics:

The replacement is still flawless. Rocking it naked unless I go somewhere that people may ask to see it (then it's in an Apple silicone case so it looks like any other phone....so they don't ask) :D

Edit: The drop was only about 2' as I was bending over to see if my truck was leaking antifreeze (had that smell on the way home). It wasn't. :( I think there's a very small leak somewhere....just enough to produce that smell.

I’ve only broken 2 iPhones in my life. And both times were when I had them in my shirt pocket, bent over to pick up something, and the phone ate ****.

Needless to say, my X will NOT be going in a shirt pocket. Even though it’s ridiculously convenient.

I forgot I'd put my X in the pocket of my joggers. Sat down at my desk and after a few mins I heard a thud on the floor.

Luckily, no damage. My X is rocking the black Apple leather case, and has a Belkin Invisiglass applied. The fall was onto laminate flooring (which, itself, is laid on underlay on top of wooden flooring) so I guess there was a certain amount of cushioning effect.

I'm much more careful now, after that!

Me.

Fell out of my pants pocket while biking. Fell 3 ft to the ground biking 10mph. The noise of a $1k piece of equipment and glass sliding over concrete is forever ingrained in my memory. Luckily, the phone faired better than expected. Fell on the back side. Small crack on the corner and some scratches around the camera. Front screen totally unscathed.

I bought the Apple leather case for it the day after and it hides every blemish. Forgot all about the small crack and a few scratches on the back.

I hardly drop my phone to be honest , I am extremely careful, albeit it has full protection . I don’t make a habit of doing multiple things whilst using it

Dropped it a few times. On carpet. On hardwood floor. Nothing happened so far.

Not like last year when I let a customer handle my iPhone 7+ and he dropped it on concrete. I didn’t give a dang after that.

My current iPhone X is still naked.

yesterday, mine slid out of my pant pocket as I exited a cab and hit the road...about 2-3 feet.

Had a sick feeling as I heard the sharp crack...luckily I had a cheap $5 plastic case on it...the hard corner made contact first and then it flipped on its back, saving the glass front....the case got a slight abrasion on it....but it saved the phone.

This phone cannot be kept naked.
