Does it matter?

It's not like you can get on an unlimited plan anymore. If you have one great, you have what you have; if not you can't get one.

Jeez, this is like comparing penises in the shower. If you like the other guys better, it's not like you can get that one.

Pointless.

Can't you?

Regardless, the analogy is less than apt.

After thinking about this although I'm with AT&T I think VZW has the better grandfathered plan. Only because they can't throttle as per FCC.

However I would think that VZW would more inclined to alter grandfathered unlimited such as not offering anymore to grandfathered users. Or some other way.

I had the opportunity back late last year to have 4 lines with unlimited with VZW. Now I'm not sure I should have stuck it out. I couldn't stand how the iPhone 4/4S performed on VZW network.

I'm paying premium money every month and don't like the throttling policy with AT&T.

but that doesn't mean you can't suck on it ;)

You can get VZW unlimited on TOL.

Correct and many business customers can still get Unlimited 4G data so it's still possible to get it . So don't hate if you are too lazy to attempt to get unlimited LTE data with the big red devil:)

Wal-mart wireless associate

It really depends on what type of account you have with either one. With verizon you would have to be on a family plan and do a cross upgrade to avoid loosing the unlimited data option. If you are not a family plan then you my friend you are screwed then you will have to pay full price to keep it. With at&t even though they might throttle you but they are not forcing you to loose the unlimited data option. Plus the killer part is that most of the people who are grandfathered with verizon barely use 2 gb on a over 3 months. Alot of people are just hung up on the unlimited word. I had a customer curse me out because she would loose the option when she upgraded. So we call verizon the rep you don't need you used only 2 gb over 3 months. She looked so stupid. In my opinion you should only keep it unless you use over 4 gb per month

I am blown away that the poll is now tied 39-39:rolleyes:

Yea I thought that VZW would be significant higher. However I would think that the majority of the people here who have iPhones are with AT&T.

This could be area specific. In my area the places that sell the iPhone; Apple, Best Buys, Radio Shack etc have said that AT&T iPhones are the majority of orders, preorders and requests. In fact Best Buys has VZW iPhone's but hasn't had AT&T ones.

Although I'm with AT&T as I said I have said that I'm leaning towards VZW in this thread. I would say most AT&T'ers would say AT&T because that's who they're with.

I now have 2 iPhones in my plan that have been throttled. In fact our younger son just texted me because he thought there was something wrong with his iPhone. He text me from study hall and wanted and has been trying to use his iPhone for homework. There's no wifi there.

I've never been throttled on my line and this is the first time 2 of the lines have gotten throttled. It's bugging me because I am paying for service that I think should be premium.

Is AT&T America's fastest network up to 3GB of data/5GB?

I personally would be irate if I had to pay $649 plus tax for my iPhone just because I decided to keep my unlimited data plan is almost as if they're trying to force me to switch to a tiered data plan

Ridiculous And glad I'm with AT&T

$649 is the cost of the device (plus tax). When you buy it for $199, your carrier is "loaning" you the rest because you sign a contract and they know they will recuperate that over the course of the contract.

Why would you be irate if you had to pay the cost of the device? You're going to pay the full amount anyway over the course of two years. In my case, I paid in full up front, can keep my unlimited (without throttling) and could walk away and go to another carrier tomorrow if I so choose.

For someone with a single line that makes sense. What about people with family plans with 4 lines? Can you add a 5th dumb phone line and use the 'loophole'?

Re: AT&T's Throttling

Are they gonna throttle too even if you are on wi-fi?

Am so over their cap since over a week ago but my data speed is crawling no matter where am connected.

As someone on an AT&T unlimited plan, I would trade it in a heartbeat for a Verizon unlimited.

Anyone that wants to, please PM me!

i was able to find someone on craigslist for me. Try there

the dude i traded with had 10 lines... all unlimited. He claimed he worked for VZW found out they were doing away with it and took out a bunch of lines in his name so he could sell them lol

Unlimited tethering and no throttling > Subsidy

To you maybe.
To some that dont use over 5GB of data and dont tether preffer not to pay $700 for a full priced phone.

No. Its only slow when you're using their data.
Not on Wifi.

Yes, Im sure he wanted to do his homework on his iphone during study and he used up all of 3G or 5GB doing homework too:D

If you only use 5GB of data, then drop unlimited. At least on Verizon it is the same cost for 1 phone with 5GB of data on the new plan setup as 1 phone with unlimited data on the old plan setup (unlimited voice/text on both). Then you get your subsidy.

What are you talking about Willis ? The new Shared 6 gig plan cost $80 while my unlimited plan is $29.99

To be honest comparing AT&T and VZW grandfathered unlimited isn't 'apples to apples' whether or not one has a policy to pay full retail to keep unlimited or not.

The point is... is AT&T unlimited truly unlimited? Is VZW truly unlimited. To me unlimited means with no boundaries. So I would say VZW wins in this case without regarding full retail or subsidy. Personally I would prefer to pay full retail and have unlimited with no boundaries. Both AT&T and VZW are compatible in pricing. It's not like AT&T is a second rate carrier. I would consider both AT&T and VZW 'premium' carriers based on coverage and pricing.

If I was to start with VZW fresh I would buy an iPhone 5 at full retail and three 4/4S from Craig's List and find TOL's. This way all lines would get unlimited

The plan, with 1 smartphone and 6GB is $120. The same service with the unlimited plan is $120. Don't forget the $80 covers unlimited voice and text services - same as the $90/mo plan under the old system.

So AT&T throttles data at 3GB or 5GB if you have LTE...

My question is whether that limit is based on having an LTE capable device or just using the LTE service?

For example, those that have iPhone 5s in areas with no LTE coverage..do they have the same 5GB throttle limit?

When you purchase an LTE equipped device your data plan is changed from Unlimited 3G to Unlimited 4G. If you use an iPhone I believe it's changed to unlimited for iPhone. Regardless of device choice this pushes your soft limit to 5GB.

Cool, thanks. Has anyone gone over 5GB in a billing cycle and NOT gotten throttled on AT&T?

AT&T because I just upgraded 4 lines and the cost was $800'ish and kept unlimited. With VZW it would have cost $2800'ish to upgrade 4 lines to keep unlimited.

The only thing that I don't like about AT&T
is you can get throttled. 3/4 lines in our plan consistently use over 3GB/5GB but never ever been throttled.

If I had only a single line I might prefer VZW.

I'm re-thinking this because of being throttled. Although we never got throttled in the past this is the first time we got throttled!

Throttling is painful!

A great reminder to me that AT&T is an evil company.

But then Verizon's new shared plan in my situation is equally horrible.

I have 2 weeks to decide and come up with a great plan (or for Sprint and others to compete vs. those 2 monsters).

I am a happy person before with my fancy Nokia dumb phones and it's atrocious UI and OS lol. And can wait until I get home for web surfing or via wi-fi connection. :p

This is all Apple's fault. :D
