So, recently my wife has begun calling me an addict (referring to my "need" to grow my iTunes media library). I tell her "I'm not the only one Honey, there are others out there with far more hardware and media than me!!"

    So my question is:

How big is your media library?
How many Movies, TV shows and music tracks do you have in your libraries?
And how much HD storage are you currently using to house everything?

Be truthful now......we can all be addicts together.....lol..

    I'll start..

as of today I have 552 Movies & 1200 Songs totaling 800GB all stored on a Time Capsule for shared use on all the :apple:TVs and Airport Expresses I have throughout the house as well as our iOS devices.

On the XBMC forum there's a thread where people show off their setups. There's one guy who's keeping 24x2 TB drives of media and is running out of space...

I've got about 700 GB of movies, series and music, and I'm constantly clearing out stuff I don't want to keep.

im approaching the limit of space my current 4x3tb drobo provides (which is sadly only 3x3tb with the redundant drive) less than 1tb left and the rate i fill it means I'm looking at the 8 bay drobo as an upgrade at the end of feb unless 4tb drives make a showing before then so i can upgrade.

TV shows are my killer, and converting my entire DvD library (and blu-rays that don't come with a digital copy in the box) fills up space fast.

funny thing is , less than 8gb of music, I'm just not a music listener.

At least I'm keeping those Thailand drive makers in a job right ? :D

"Say hello to my little friend!"

    1.1TB of media library = 600GB of TV shows + 500GB of movies + 60GB of music

That's about 400 TV episodes, 200 movies and 8000 music tracks. Stored on a 2TB + 2TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro, connected to a headless Mac mini iTunes server.

I have about 2.7 GB of music I listen to and 70 GB that I'm about to delete. I haven't bought any additional music in the past 3-4 years.

I have no other media. I just don't see the need.

EDIT: On second thought, I'll probably delete all of it. I never listen to it anyway.

What are you converting your DVDs to?
I am going through the same process and am torn.
.mp4 seems to be a good option but is a long process.
Keeping them in DVD format takes up too much space

I've got 400GB of Music, 750GB of .m4v DVDs, and 1.7TB of .m4v Blu rays. I also have the original images for the movies, which round out to like 13TB's or so (have about 20TBs of digital media stored total).

Wish the prices of HDDs would drop again. Need more STORAGE...

    Not that big but:

Music: 2000 soongs about 13 gb

Movies: 100 purchased/ripped with 200 sitting here, this is about 150 gb. 30% is in HD.

TV shows: 400 episodes, 50/50 DVD rips/HD. About 100 gig.

But it is growing, I have my eye on two more TV series to buy that is another 500 episodes and once I get to ripping the rest of my DVD collection I am well on my way to filling up a TB or two. All my non-iTunes media is on a WD MyBook drive connected to my AEBS via a USB hub which shares itself with my WD Passport drive used for back ups. I access my media via AppleTV and XBMC. I have Plex too, but just removed it from my ATV and may remove it from my MBP too, I am digging XBMC a lot more for my needs.

Far too big really. Music 86743 songs
Tv 6792 items loads of hd
Movies 3251 items about 30% hd
    Loads of podcasts.

Size 6.2TB all off a mac mini lion server and 2 drobopros (1 is backup via super duper)

Absolutely no chance of getting iTunes match anytime soon and growing rapidly.

I am currently running 12TB of drives off my iMac ( 6 X 2TB drives ) I am at work at the moment so dont have precise numbers but i know if i hit play on my music I will not hear the same track for 63 days, I would have around 1300 movies and around 40 - 50 TV seasons and aprox 4500 ebooks + magazines (PDF's) in itunes
Most music is in MP3 format, Movies have been encoded through Handbrake to be compatable with ipad, apple TV, ATV2 and iphone.

    726GB - Movies
    339GB - Music
    2.1TB - TV Shows

All served from a Mac Mini Server / Drobo ( 4x2TB ) feeding 2x2G ATV's, and running ServeToMe/StreamToMe for streaming to the Macs/iOS devices around the house.

Thinking of upgrading to a DroboPro for the extra capacity. Anyone used one?

Forget iTunes match...they probably want to match up to you!! 86,000 songs...wow.

I've got 4,000+ songs, 150 movies and over 700 TV episodes.
Getting close to a TB, need to start thinking about larger storage solutions and ripping the 1,500 DVDs sitting on my floor..

I suddenly don't feel so bad with my 800GB of media.....

I think my next step is getting into HD movies which will significantly bump up my need to extra storage. Right now everything I have is just DVD quality.

850gigs of movies on my external hard drive (its a WD 1TB USB) and just under 250gigs of movies and TV shows on my machine at any time. Almost all movies are HD since they were all encoded like crap at first, I made the effort to re-encode/download them all again in 720/1080p. I should also mention all of them have surround sound in either Pro Logic I/II or AC3 5.1 Dolby, sound is half the movie!

    About 360 blu-ray and DVD feature-only rips in full quality - 7.5TB
    11,276 tracks in iTunes (ALAC) - 285GB
    iTunes TV shows - 380GB
    BD/DVD TV series - 600GB

The movies and disc TV series are hosted as MKV's on a QNAP 2TBx6 RAID 5 NAS. The iTunes library is on an internal drive in my MP.

I wil need to either get a 2nd NAS or upgrade to 3TB disks this year - hoping for price normalization on HDD's in the next several months.
