They put stickers on their mbp and they don't care about mbp. They have no life.

I'm sure Jimmy will be upset to hear how little he has achieved in his life compared to the people on macrumors.

i always put a ton of stickers on my lid, but removing them is a challenge. Leaves a ton of residue that needs to be scrubbed off and also over the years the aluminum under the sticker becomes slightly discolored

I've attached mine. I love it makes it different. and I get to personalize it to help me from picking up someone else's. My college liked it so much they did a photo shoot with me and my laptop lol my college is artsy lol

I want my next one to be a colorful zombie sleeping beauty

I've had my current MBP for over 5 years and never suspected that I'd put a sticker on it, I really think most of them look quite tacky and tasteless, sorry if that offends anyone. I'd only ever contemplate putting one on if it fits the aesthetic of the machine itself and looks quite minimalist. I stumbled across this high quality vinyl and bought it a few months ago, and I think it looks pretty awesome. So yeah, I'm converted on decals.

The Macbook's look is known for it's simplicity. It's only in the finer details that separate the Macbook from it's competition.
Wait! So what separates the MacBook Pro from other computers is the lack of stickers? I always thought MacBook Pros were known for their design, computing ability and for OS X. And here it was all about stickers, all along!

stickers? no way!!

..would just leave big smooth gaps between all the scrapes and scratches when I finally take them off. And that would just be ugly

For me, that just defeats the purpose of the Macbook.
So if someone puts a sticker on your Macbook it's completely useless?

News flash:
News flash: Your opinion is not news.

If you don't care for stickers on your Macbook then you don't have to put them on. However, others have their own preferences and your preference isn't relevant to them.

I'm surprised Macbook owners ever get mugged

Simply walk alongside them, gently place a smiley faced sticker or other such abomination on the side of their precious, and then wait for them to throw it away..

Hell yea I personalize my macbook with decals. Not like they're hard to remove if I wanted to sell it anyways. If you use quality decals, a blowdryer on low is enough to heat up the glue for you to peel them off.

I'm simply averse to anything more than one or two decals stuck on any computer never mind just a Macbook Pro. Had a desktop pentium II in the mid 90's mail order go rubber band repeatedly, kept failing to boot and bricking the hard disk. The dizzy blonde said she had a Polaroid so I could see where it's sited for a clue and when I saw the picture come in the post of every surface covered with little fridge and decal magnets was one of those rare laugh rage and cry moments all at once.

The kids keep asking for the replacement fruit but I resist!

I had a decal on my 09 MBP for a few years. No pic, but it was the white cat Artemis from Sailor Moon :D That was the same time period that I covered my car in stickers as well as my Nalgene and Camelback water bottles. It was a popular thing between 2005 and 2010 or so.

My rMBP is sticker-free, and the Toyota Corolla I got in 2011 only has two vinyl decals on the rear windshield. Nothing on the body.

I have stickers on my rMBP and I love it. I couldn't care less what other people think about it and how it "devalues" my laptop. It is, after all, MY laptop and I could do what I want with it. Otherwise, my laptop will just look like everyone else's. Why not make it look like something that means something to me? That makes it mine. I don't see anything wrong with applying stickers or whatnot to your laptop. It's not like it damages the surface or the laptop itself. It just makes it more personal compared to the other MacBooks out there.

Here's a picture of my 15" rMBP with my decals:

I love my laptop and I love the decals all the same. I don't think there's anything wrong with personalizing your laptop or any of your belongings. It's good to make it yours instead of it looking like everyone else's. Just because one person doesn't like what you do to YOUR stuff doesn't mean it's wrong. It's all a matter of opinion. The OP thinks I devalued my laptop and I happen to disagree. I bought the laptop for my enjoyment, not yours and being the person that spent money to buy this laptop, I should be able to do what I want with it, decorating wise and whatnot.

MBPr

I have a similar question. I just got a brand new mid-2104, 15" MBPr (2.5GHz, 512GB, 16GB, Discrete Graphics etc.).
I am a little embarrassed: I am using a very nice sleeve to carry and store my MBPr. Problem is, the sleeve came with my old Dell XPS laptop. I cut out the XPS tag but a small XPS logo is still embossed on a leather strip of the sleeve. I feel like using XPS branded sleeve to carry my MBPr is like cheating and "cheapens" my new MBPr.
Am I OK to feel that way?

Omg really? Your fine computer is cheapened by that? Do you only care about people thinking you have a XPS instead of a macbook? If it's a good sleeve it's a good sleeve.

That's ridiculous. Enjoy the sleeve and your computer.

No decals on mine (I do like them though) but I do have a "shell".

Too bad the shell is not smooth plastic. Otherwise, I think I would have added some cool decals. :D

That looks like nice - almost a throw back to when apple produced color iBooks.

I treat mine like a productivity tool. Sounds like its a fashion accessory for you OP.

I have a few stickers on my MBP. Personally, I like when people customize their electronics. It adds personality.

that is cool. Though I could never imagine Hal 9000 in an Apple product :p
