My 2007 Subaru Impreza is a bad car

Hi,
Ford, Renault, Pego, etc. all other cars in my city are working nicely in winter. Except, my 2007 Subaru Impreza. There is no words to describe my feelings and ideas. Just stay away from Subaru. Save your soul.
Sincerely
Mehmet:mad:

My mum has a 2003 Subaru (Forester) and loves it. I enjoy driving it, too. It has needed very little work compared to other cars we've had.

ideas are important.

Time to ditch the RE-92a's.

Hi Counterfit,
I do not think that this should be a problem. I do not have much time. I believe that I have done enough readings about Subaru and I have written some other forums. If you are interested in reading them and if it is okay to give links in this forum, I can write them here. People register forums when they need them and when they need to share their happines, sadness and ideas. It should not matter if it is one time or not. All ideas should be respected. I understand that some people are happy with their Subaru and I am very happy for them. However, my subaru impreza has given me a lot of problems.
Take care

how about cold weather?

I bought a new '05 Subaru Impreza WRX STi after spending months of research.
My problems started around 9000 miles and NEVER stopped.

Everything from bad injector, clutch noises (lost count of how many times that was "repaired,") air conditioning, bad differential, and oh, by the way...did I mention it used MORE THAN A QUART OF OIL EVERY 600 TO 700 miles!?

I got know far too many service managers and techs by first name. And I NEVER, EVER raced this car. Took EXCELLENT care of it. Had problems with 2 different dealerships.

Did it drive well? Yes, but it reminded me of an old girlfriend. She was gorgeous, good in bed, intelligent and an absolute unpredictable raving, abusive MANIAC!

Finally ended up suing Subaru. Thank God for the lemon law. This car wasn't just a lemon, it was an ENTIRE ORCHARD! Someone said earlier that Subaru sucks. I couldn't agree more.

I am planning to sue Subaru too. I am in Turkey. My car barely works at cold weather. Did you have that kind of problem?

We have a 2004 Subaru Forester XT and have had no problems with it. However, I will say that they are horrible with gas consumption and oil consumption. If you are looking for something a bit more green, this is not it.

There is an '07 STi sitting in my garage (my brother's car, I agreed to keep it while he is away in college).

Nice, quick, loud...not very fuel efficient as mentioned. I'll take it out every couple weeks to work and without fail, someone always tries to race. I've had a couple neighbors ask what all the noise is (extremely loud BOV).

I have a 2003 Impreza currently (the really angry looking kind). Before that, I had a '94 Toyota Corolla (which is still running well, my brother now owns it). Both cars are amazing! The Subaru is a lot better in the snow, and gets maybe a little more stiff in the winter than the Toyota did, but both have started every time, even in the middle of winter in Canada. Also, it has less gas mileage but that is to be expected, and it's still not too shabby. It runs nicely for what I use it for (2 to 4 hours driving on a highway and in a city each day, depending on the day).

You're right. People lurk here for ages, and register when a particular thread strikes a chord. For you, perhaps it was this thread about Subarus, since you've had a hard time. Saying that, I don't think he meant to give you a hard time. ;) I read his thread to mean you were so disgruntled with your car that you actually registered to post about this rather than Macs, which is probably why you came here originally.

See you around. ;)

I would like to thank you and Counterfit. I have learned something new. I am sorry for lurking. I should have read the title better too. :rolleyes:Here means MacRumors people who has been contributed to this forum for some time.
Goodbye.

Here in GB the WRX is a chavs car. I believe you can even order it with Burberry seat covers and personalised sun strip.....e.g."Eddie n Mave". Only scousers ever drive them because they are top of the list on any ram raiders wish list and thus disappear the first time they are left in the pub car park. Ignoring the badge associations, its cheap, nasty, mega fast and sticks like marmite to pubes when cornering (US readers can ignore the last bit since cornering is irrelevant). Having said that they are more imaginative than BMW who have UK exclusivity in being driven by male members here in the UK;)

The Forester however is understated and gentlemanly driven by the sort of person who does not mistakenly associate an automobile with genital enlarger

Oh get you. How dare he register on a forum to express an opinion...we can't all be legends in our own lunchtime ya know

.....and the point being.

Of course they do. Its is an internet forum not a exclusive gathering of smirking techno trousers in a city wine bar

I've heard conflicting accounts of the origin of the Subaru logo. While most agree that Subaru is the Japanese word for the Pleiades star cluster, and also means something like "unite", the number and sizes of stars are an interesting point of discussion.

One source is the official explanation, which says that 6 companies combined to create the Subaru. But that doesn't explain one star being much larger than the others. Another source says that 5 companies were involved and that the big star is for Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent organization.

I've found other explanations too, one theory being that the larger point of light is Venus moving through the Taurus constellation in which the Pleiades are seen from our part of the world. Some claim that there are six stars because only 6 of the 7 main stars in the Pleiades are normally visible, while an astronomer told me that the Japanese dropped one star to make it a luckier number.

I'm driving around town in an unsettled controversy!

My mom bought a Subaru Legacy and it a great car. Recently it has been slushy, ice-y and slippery and the Legacy handles great. It has symmetrical all wheel drive, which means each wheel works on its own.
She didn't get heated seats but the car warms up quick. There are random spots of the car that just don't get warm though.
Also, as my mom says "this car isn't designed for a woman." She often gets frustrated that there isn't a spot in the center console to put her bag, nor is there a spot in by the front passengers feet.

Overall, it's a great car.

btw, the trunk is HUGE!

Subaru, yes!!

Had a 99 Forester, then an 08 Outback, and i'm getting an 09 Legacy within a few months. They are not luxury cars, so they will start to buzz and click at high miles, but they keep going. Everyone keeps forgetting that they are all wheel drive, so they will get lower fuel economy. key is to get a stick, the 5 speed gets me 33 highway in my outback, and the legacy should be about the same if not higher. Go with the lower engine and you will get good milage, but it won't be a rocket off the line. And they are good in the snow.

I bought a brand new 2003 WRX Sedan and loved it while I had it, now I have a 2008 Legacy and enjoy that just as much (although the turbo on the WRX was fun). Never had any problems with either car.

My best friends sister had a 2003 WRX and she wouldn't recommend it. It wasn't the most reliable Japanese vehicle and it got positively terrible gas mileage and she didn't drive hard or far over the speed limit.

I know someone with a 2001 Forester and it has had transmission issues and it needed a head gasket replacement when it was right out of warranty. Do you know how much that costs???

I have an '07 WRX and LOVE IT. Great in the winter (we see some fun snow storms in Nebraska) and just an all around pleasure to drive. Haven't had to service it yet either, unless you count an oil change.

Happy so far

Here's my review...

I bought a 2000 Forester S (manual transmission) with 100,000 miles on the clock a year ago. So far I've put 20,000 miles on the car and have done the following work:

New tires
New timing belt
Repaired exhaust flange
Cleaned up frozen brake caliper
Replaced brake rotors and pads
...and a leaking strut which I have yet to replace...

...not bad considering the age of the car. I have the "S" model, which means I get heated seats and a rear limited slip differential, which improves the already excellent traction afforded by the AWD. It has the naturally aspirated SOHC boxer four cylinder, 165HP/166ft-lbs. It's a heavy car, but the 5-speed manual transmission has short gears, which (coupled with the torquey engine) makes it nippy in town. I wish it had a sixth gear for better fuel economy on the highway, but gas mileage is not awful buy US standards - I'm seeing around 25mpg city and 27.5mpg highway when cruising at about 75mph. If you drive 60mph on the highway it will break 30mpg.

I bought the car for snow driving, and it didn't disappoint - it's an excellent car for bad weather. The wagon body means it will carry a ton of stuff. The suspension has a good amount of travel which means it's a comfortable highway cruiser and good on bad roads. Engine noise is louder than average, but it doesn't bother me. Interior plastics are kind of cheap (but remember this is a nine year old car), but over all the car is built like a tank.

I've driven this car almost all the way across the US (twice), and through several sub-zero Upper Peninsula winters piled high with snow. I've driven it in five major cities in all seasons so far and it has coped very well with all driving conditions. The heated seats are very nice in the winter.

Most naturally-aspirated Subarus are pretty similar, so your Impreza should be similar to my Forester in basic performance.

Pros:

Excellent bad weather performance
Precise steering feel
Comfortable ride
Roomy with good cargo space (wagons)
Grunty engine with good torque

Cons:

Average fuel economy (though it doesn't require premium)
Heavy, not particularly fast
Not a sporty-looking car by any stretch
Cheapish-looking interiors
Engine noise (any big 4 cylinder suffers from this)

Okay, so I started this post in 2006. It is now 2009, and on January 10, 2009, I purchased a 2009 Subaru Legacy GT Spec B. I'm extremely pleased with this vehicle, as it's unbelievably fast, handles well, and so far is very reliable. P

I'm heavily considering the purchase of a new 2006 subaru impreza (not WRX) wagon.

Anyone have any good/bad things to say about subaru? My only other car has been a honda civic.

My mom and dad each had Subaru Outbacks, it was kind of funny to see two Outbacks in one driveway. My dad finally traded his in for his something more luxurious though. They are great cars, very high ground clearance compared to other cars and wagons. Everything about the car is designed very well. The only problem I had with the one my dad had was that it seemed to be slightly underpowered. (he had the 4 cylinder version, my mom has the 6 cylinder) They are great cars, I would suggest one at the drop of a hat.

I am not sure of its interior materials are with the current line up. The Subaru Outback the company gave me several years ago had a very cheapo looking interior (like a toy car), even though its AWB drive train will help the car stick to the pavement. The gas mileage was poor due to its AWB power train.

I like the WRX series as it is not too flashy to draw unneeded attention from other people in the parking lot, while it has a good performance credential.

Too flashy and showy = keyed paint job, door dings by other drivers, and other unnecessary attention from other motorists.

Owned a 2001 Outback. Dependable car until it hit 100k miles. Replaced some typical items that you'd expect to wear out but after we replaced the catalytic converter the car was never the same. Chronic electrical / electronic problems. The dealership could not isolate the problem. Had to tow it three times in the past 8 months. I know a lot of people swear by them but in the end I just swore at it and traded it off.

I used to have a Blue Subaru WRX STI. Pretty good car and amazed me and changed the way I thought of Japanese cars. I changed to a BMW 335i this year though because my WRX had multiple and repeated clutch problems.
