my parents have a 98 outback (australia edition). it is an amazingly stable and good car. they just spent a large amount on getting the whole engine basically re-done, it cost a lot but it will apparently last another 10 years without any major work.

I took my 2005 Outback in for service. I had no problems to report, just needed routine maintenance. They found nothing wrong in their routine inspections. Off I drove, still a happy camper.

I would like to thank you and Counterfit. I have learned something new. I am sorry for lurking. I should have read the title better too. :rolleyes:Here means MacRumors people who has been contributed to this forum for some time.

I know this is old but. . .

I know this thread is old, but I have to say that I will never buy a Subaru again. It's positively the worst car I have ever owned, having had more problems than my 3 previous cars combined. It costs more to fix, and the customer service is absolutely terrible. They automatically blame you even it isn't possible for you to break the part. You have to call Subaru of America just to get them to honor their own warranty, which is pathetic as is. My WRX has practically been rebuilt at this point and is still constantly being fixed. I'll never buy one again, and I hope no one else ever does. Just the other day I was having a "routine maintenance" (which ended up costing double what it should have) when I heard another couple complaining about theirs. After hearing them fighting with the service manager that their car is in for the 4th time, I recommended they lemon law it. They are now looking into that and if I could, I would too. I hate my car, and I hate Subaru as a company more.

My friend had a 2005 forester xt(turbo), he bought it used in 2012. He had problems with his engine overheated, oil leaking, replacing the belt at 105k miles. He paid 3k to have it fixed. Not sure on the full details of what thr problem was. Again he is having problems with it. He drives about 100 miles a day. He bought another new forester xt, model year 2017. I told him, dude, just get a Subaru XV Crosstrek(which is an Impreza but roomier and sits higher up, it's better on gas. But he wants a forester xt.

My friend never bothered with doing routine maintenance. So it's his fault. I have a Subaru myself, have had it for 3.5 years. I like it. But turbo foresters are just high maintenance
